Key notions and principles • no ICT without a pedagogical rationale • development, process and teamwork are the key issues • adequate, contemporary and relevant pedagogical ICT in-service training of teachers • ICT-integration at all levels across all subjects • distribution across the country • not compulsory, not an exam but a recognized certificate April, 2002

Organisation and implementation Distributed network – 7 ICT-licences in operation Political board Administration, end user hotline and support 160 course providers Content update 800 tutors ~2,000 courses 35,000 participants 20,000 driving licences issued the rest are teachers in process April, 2002

  5. How is this possible? Development - central public funding: primarily the Ministry of Education and Uni•C Implementation some central funding supports the implementation implementation is the responsibility of local government and schools teachers receive a reduction in teaching hours to participate April, 2002

  10. Course concept • Courses are preferably school based • Introductory day with tutor – the rest is e-learning • Work in teacher teams • Duration: minimum 5-6 months • During the course teams must write 8 examples of instructional design to obtain the ‘License”. April, 2002

Does it work? • Two extensive independent studies document that • Dropout rates are less than 10% • More than 80% find the course relevant or very relevant • Long term effects have been monitored and rated highly positive • In three years more than 35,000 educators have participated April, 2002

ICT for everybody – the future of Denmark • increase the usage of ICT in education • - customize training to the needs of the individual • - realize the potential of every student • - focus on learning with ICT, not about ICT – unless you are to be an ICT-professional • train the teachers in integrating ICT into daily teaching
