  3. Activity • Define the following terms in your notebook (do not consult your book). • Compare your definitions with a partner. • Work together to fill in any missing information. Refer to the book as needed. • Clarify any doubts with the professor.

  4. Terms • Learner-centered instruction • Cooperative and collaborative learning • Interactive learning • Whole language education • Content-based instruction • Task-based instruction

  5. Evaluating Textbooks • Read the introductory material • Make a list of key words/ “catch phrases” that the authors use • Is the text claiming to follow an communicative approach?

  6. Evaluating 2 • Randomly select one chapter and read/skim it • Does the chapter follow a communicative approach? Does it violate the approach? How? • Do any of the key terms we discussed describe this chapter? Explain how. • Which principles are at work in the chapter? Which are violated?

  7. Evaluation 3 • Create an activity based on this chapter that is in line with (1) a Communicative Approach and (2) the principles as outline in chapter 4 • Present your evaluation of the book and your activity to the class
