  3. Third Party Involvement • Anti-Masonic Party • Opposed secrecy of Masonic Order • “Energized” by New York murder • Appealed to suspicions of secret societies • Contained many evangelical Protestants • Wanted to use political power to effect reforms

  5. Outcome of the Election • Andrew Jackson (Democratic) wins with • 219 Electoral Votes • 687,502 Popular Votes • Henry Clay (National Republican) loses with • 49 Electoral Votes • 530,189 Popular Votes • William Wart ( Anti-Masonic) loses with • 7 Electoral Votes • 100,715 Popular Votes
