  2. Job 1:8 • “Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?“ • From the land of Uz • Large family - 10 children • Wealthy man • Well known and respected

Job Was a Real Man Some doubt that he was a real person Fabricated - fictitious - fairytale Parable - like Good Samaritan, Prodigal Son Evidence that he was a “real” mortal being Ezekiel 14:14, 20 “Noah, Daniel and Job” James 5:11 “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.” Job 40:15 (ESV) “Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox.”

  4. Job Was Tested Job 1:9 “So Satan answered the LORD and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing?” Accuses God of bribing Job You have put a hedge around him Implication - No one serves God out of love God allowed Satan to Test Job - restrictions

  5. Job Was Tested • Job’s losses in one day • Oxen, Donkey’s and servants • Sheep and servants • Camels and servants • Sons and Daughters • His Reaction • Mourns • Then worships God

  6. “Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.” v.21

  7. Job Was Tested Job Passed Job 2:10 “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.” Job 13:15 “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” Cursed the day of his birth - Job 3:3 Doubted God’s Justice - Job 16:11 Never Cursed God

  8. Job Was A Servant of God • “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?” Job 1:8 • Servant • Perfect • Upright • Fears God • Eschews evil - shuns evil

  9. Job Was A Servant of God Perfect • Blameless • Does not mean he was sinless • He was mature • He was faithful to God • He was consistent in godly living Matthew 5:48 “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

  10. Job Was A Servant of God Upright • Honest in business dealings • Not a liar - can be trusted • Good reputation • Doing to others as he wanted them to do Isaiah 33:15-16 “He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,…” “He will dwell on high:…”

  11. Job Was A Servant of God Feared God • Deep reverence for God • Religious man - worshiped God • A great man of the East “…I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him.” Eccl. 8:12b “…Fear God and keep His commandments” Eccl.12:13

Job Was A Servant of God Shunned Evil • Eschewed = to avoid • Job departed from evil • Carefully avoided sin and temptation Prov. 8:13 NKJV “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.” Prov. 16:6 b “And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil.”

  13. Job Was A Servant of God My Servant Job • Have you looked at Job • God declares that Job is His servant Are we Servants of God ?

  14. JOB A servant of God • Allowed to be tempted • Prove a greater lesson to Satan and his angels • Man was capable of obeying God • Proves that there is unselfish goodness Job 23:10 “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”
