How to get there: Wellfleet is a 2 hour car ride from Boston and 4 hour drive from New York. In the summer months you can take the car ferry from Boston Harbour to Provincetown. Alternatively get the local air shuttle from Boston to Provincetown and arrive in 20 minutes - from there it’s a 15 minute drive to Wellfleet.

Completely renovated in 2003, the cottage now has a modern, bright interior and sleeps a maximum of 7 people. There are 3 bedrooms - one king, a twin and a single, plus a queen size sofa bed in the study. There is one bathroom upstairs with a bath and shower and a cloakroom downstairs.

Outside, there is a wooded garden with a mix of oaks, pines and rhododendron bushes; a spacious deck runs across the back of the house where there is an outdoor shower for washing off sand after visits to the beach. For summer days there is a gas barbecue, patio chairs and table for outdoor eating. In the garage is a full size table tennis table.

The sitting area, kitchen and dining area are all one large open space, looking onto the back, south facing garden. The kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, large oven and hob as well as a full range of cooking equipment. In case of bad weather, there is DVD, cable TV and hi-fi, as well as a good selection of games and books. The study has high speed internet access.

The cottage is in a quiet, no through road within easy walking or cycling distance of Wellfleet (cycles can be hired locally to explore the miles of dedicated cycle ways which criss-cross the Outer Cape). Wellfleet was once a whaling port and still has a busy harbour (above) where you can buy fresh fish and lobsters just out of the sea! Wellfleet’s town centre is a picture book New England scene, with its clapboard shops and imposing town hall.
