Perform documented fault isolation and repair procedures to the authorized maintenance level on the MarCom.

  4. Topic Learning Objectives 1. State the purpose of the MarCom. • Describe the organization, content, & use of the technical documentation. • Define the abbreviations and terms. • State the operational characteristics and capabilities of MarCom. • Describe the units of MarCom.

  5. Purpose of MarCom MarCom IVCS primary function is to provide reliable voice-to-voice communication. MarCom IVCS is a processor controlled, solid-state communications system designed for shipboard use. MarCom IVCS fulfills all the functions typically performed by separate voice systems, including: • Intercoms, • Internal voice nets, • Interphone, • All conference services.

MarCom Characteristics/Capabilities • Modular in design, consisting of ruggedized COTS equipment. • Redundancy enhances survivability & reliability: - Two switching centers - Redundant processors & power supplies - Power supplies backed up by batteries • Interfaces with external circuits: - Sound Powered Telephone Nets - Public Address System - Shore Lines - Command & Control Circuits • Designed to be non-blocking

  9. Characteristics/Capabilities MarCom is an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). Enhancements include efficient support for: - Large scale netting - Conferencing - Users who need to simultaneously communicate on multiple circuits or nets while actively monitoring them all. - Provisions for handling classified voice traffic
