  8. Research – Contributor/Leader • EIC participates in, contributes to, or co-funds impactful research, e.g., • USDA NIFA Project on aviary hen housing research (co-fund) • CSES Project • “50-year” Environmental Footprint Comparison

Research – Sponsor/Funder through Perpetual EIC Endowment Funds • EIC provides funding for applied research to help addressing industry’s priority issues • Competitive Proposal Selection Process • Two-step process: preproposal & full proposal • RFA for Preproposal issued May 1 • Preproposal due June 1 • Invitation for full proposals in mid-late July • Full proposal due Sept 1 • Funding decision made by mid October • 2013 Award: Purdue University – Keel bone abnormalities in alternative hen housing
