  4. Today’s agenda SWBAT solve basic Pythagorean Theorem word problems.

  5. Pythagorean Theorem Rap Pythagorean Theorem goes with right triangles. Hypotenuse is across from the right angle. Legs are ‘a’ and ‘b’, Hypotenuse is ‘c’, Plug the numbers in and see how easy it can be. A squared plus B squared equals C squared. A squared plus B squared equals C squared. Pythagorean Theorem is a wonderful equation. Just gotta make sure you plug in the right location. Draw the triangle, Label the sides, Then you solve the problems and get them all right. A squared plus B squared equals C squared. A squared plus B squared equals C squared.

Whiteboard Races • The class will be divided into groups. • You will be given 45 seconds for each problem. • Every person on the team must complete the problem and have an answer before you determine the answer to the problem together. • Once the group agrees on an answer, write the answer on your whiteboard. • Once the time is up, each group will raise their whiteboard in the air. • All groups with the correct answer will earn a point. • If your group answer the problem correctly, you will then have the choice to shoot the ball into the trashcan and score 1, 2, or 3 pts. • The group with the most points will win a prize!

Pythagorean theorem bingo • Each of you will get a BINGO card. • You will have 2 minutes to quickly fill in your BINGO sheet randomly with the answers on the next slide. • You will have 1 minute to work each problem and then determine if your answer is on your BINGO card. • If the answer is on your card, you may mark it off, otherwise, try for the next problem. • We will not go over the questions, it is your job to determine the correct answers! • Call out BINGO if you get 5 answers in a row!

Angles review • The following angles are congruent (equal): • Vertical – angles across from each other • 1 & 3, 2 & 4, 5 & 7, 6 & 8 • Alternate interior – angles on the inside of the parallel lines, on opposite sides of the transversal, and paired with different parallel lines. • 4 & 6, 5 & 3 • Alternate exterior – angles outside the parallel lines, on opposite sides of the transversal, and paired with different parallel lines. • 1 & 7, 8 & 2 • Corresponding – one is interior and one is exterior, on the same side of the transversal, and paired with different parallel lines. • 1 & 5, 4 & 8, 2 & 6, 3 & 7

  36. Angles review • Angles that lie on the same line together are supplementary and add up to 180 degrees. • Angles that make a right angle together are complementary and add up to 90 degrees.

Sum races • You are all in groups. • Each group will be issued a card with 4 problems on it. • It is your job as a group to solve the problems on the card. • After you have solved all of the problems on the card, you will add up the answers to get the ‘sum’. • You will bring your sum up to me and I will tell you whether or not you solved the problems correctly. • If the sum is not right, you will then go back to your group to rework the problems – I will not tell you which problem you missed, it is your group with your group members to check the answers and find the wrong problem(s). • If you get the sum correct, I will give you another card. • The first group to get the sums correct for all cards will win a prize!
