OUR CHARGE • Review current schedule in light of staffing adjustments • Develop a schedule that: • Meets state contact time and credit requirements • Does not change district graduation requirements • Fits within the budget/staffing allotment • Provides flexibility for students and staff • Is educationally sound • Supports the SIP/accreditation process • High schools may have different schedules • University High School teachers voted for a contract modification which allows them to continue the 4 period day • Central Valley High School staff indicated that they would not support a four period contract modification

Enable sequential learning Meet contractual requirements Provide for same teacher student contact all year long Offer flexibility Avoid negative impacts on extra-curricular activities Support Running Start and Skills Center programs Meet graduation requirements Stay within district’s budget Comply with Washington state laws/policies Allow for inclusion of 4P’s Plan Portfolio Pathways Project Our Criteria Identify a schedule that would:

  5. EXPLANATION OF TERMS • Teacher Collaboration Time: • Departmental planning/curriculum coordinating • School-wide planning/curriculum coordinating • Academic Teams planning/coordination • Staff development • Staff meetings

Student/Teacher access time: Accountable time for academic support Teachers available 8:00 – 8:45 Mandatory for students with Fs and those directed by teachers to attend Assignment and test make-up Extra help/tutoring Student collaboration Optional if not needed or directed Opportunity for “Natural advocacy” EXPLANATION OF TERMS

  7. EXPLANATION OF TERMS • Advisory (Homeroom) • Student advocacy—same teacher for 4 years • Administrative support • Academic accountability (WASL, Registration, 4P’s, Etc.) • Communications • Flexible schedule • Twice a week or more as needed

FEEDBACK RESULTS • Preferred Schedule = C (3 6-period days and 2 block days) • Community 71% • Staff 64 % • Students 8 % • Overall 52% • Student choice = 4 blocked days (61%) • Other Schedules over all choice • Option A - Straight 6 period day = 23% • Option B -1 6 period day and 4 blocked days = 25%
