  1. Tour Leader Training Module 5: Additional Skills

  2. Social Media As an internationally known organization, it is expected that the tour leaders will face the media and be on social media. Social-media technologies take on many different forms including magazines, Internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, microblogging, wikis, social networks, podcasts, photographs or pictures, video, rating and social bookmarking.

  3. Social Media in the Philippines • Text-messaging capital of the world  Social Networking Capital of the World • 93% of internet users have Facebook accounts • Selfie-capital of the World • Sharing is Caring

  4. Social Media Etiquette • Have your social media profiles completed in full and don’t have multiple profiles • You are what you tweet… and share • Avoid poor grammar, spelling, WRITING IN ALL CAPS, and #too #much #hashtags • Give credit when credit is due • Think before tagging • Think twice before responding • Never post when you’re overly-tired, jet lagged, intoxicated, angry, or upset

  5. How should we use the social media properly? • We have tours where tourists re not allowed to take pictures. • We have official picture where they can ask photo • Don’t tag them instantly, ask permission first • Be careful in our posts

  6. Be careful in posting • Photos of guests • Tagging photos and status • ‘Friending’ the guests • Providing information of the guests

  7. Examples: • Thank you for booking the tour. See you at Tayuman Station at 9 am. That would be about 45 mins from **** hotel where you stay in. • Thank you for the great tour! The guy who made the pictures did a fantastic job. I liked you from the start!

  8. Examples: • Thank you for the great tour! I can’t stop laughing about that one time you fell off your bike, John! • Hi John, this is <name> from the Smokey Mountain tour we did yesterday. Did you see the picture in which your head looks like a red balloon, because of the sunburn you got? Hope you get well soon!

  9. Examples: • Thanks for joining the tour! You were a very enthusiastic group. Hope to see you again soon! #SmokeyTours #Bike #Hot #Tired #FunDay #etc. #etc.
