  1. Standardisation Activities

  2. Contributions to Standards • H3G and Bamboo made a contribution to 3GPP SA2 in the first half of C-Mobile project in 2006 in France, 3GPP contribution was S2-062684 ‘3GPP TSG SA WG2 Architecture’, S2#54, 28 August - 1 September 2006, Sophia Antipolis, France. (BAMBOO and H3G) • The C-Mobile contribution to SA2 "TD S2‑063517 Multiple Traffic Bearers for an "MBMS Bearer Service" was presented by 3 on behalf of C-Mobile in the SA2 meeting in Busan. • Since the proposal was related to the use of multiple bearers which required additional resources, it was suggested that the work in other 3GPP WGs to be checked before introducing such a scheme. • 3GPP SA2 decided that the contribution should be kept open and it was also noted that contributions can be expected on this topic in the Rel‑8 time frame.

  3. In 2007, 3 and Bamboo drafted a work item description which was presented to 3GPP's SA2 (Architecture group) in Florida. With the support of China Mobile and other companies this work item was agreed and the contributions into SAE was welcome; • Work Item: "3", China Mobile, Vidiator, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. Alcatel-Lucent 3GPP TSG SA WG2 Architecture — S2#58 S2-072921, 25 - 29 June 2007 Revision of S2-072910, Orlando, FL, USA • At the next SA2 meeting in Helsinki a further document was prepared and submitted to progress the work. • 3GPP TSG SA WG2 Architecture — S2#59 S2-073519, 27 August - 31 August 2007, Helsinki, Finland • This document was unfortunately not dealt with in the meeting due to pressure of work. This was an indication of things to come as SA2 were starting to develop the Enhanced Packet System, formerly known as SAE.

  4. Bamboo produced and 3 submitted to the SA2 meeting in Athens a further document, “EPS and E-UTRAN MBMS QoS Management”but as SA2 had been given a clear directive by 3GPP's plenary body to concentrate on completing the EPS work the agenda item that it was submitted under was removed. • It was very clear that until SA2 complete certain areas of work on EPS/SAE it will not be possible to progress this work further. • The next window of opportunity to resubmit these contributions will be in June 2008.

  5. Review of 3GPP Standards • 3GPP Standards have been continuously reviewed and reported to the group • The aim of 3GPP reviews was to follow the state-of-art developments and propose further enhancements for MBMS specifications in 3GPP Rel7 and Rel8
