New Career Pathways

USD 305

Salina Public Schools

In fall 2009, the Career Pathways Advisory Committee was assembled to gather recommendations for new pathways.STEM – Engineering was the highest recommendation by a significant margin.Manufacturing Production was one of the top 5 recommendations.

The STEM Advisory Committee was formed in fall 2010 to research the costs of implementing this pathway.Much of the research focused on Project Lead the Way program as the curricular framework. The committee identified many challenges and barriers for Engineering but recommended that USD 305 implement this pathway if possible.

In spring 2012 the Salina Chamber of Commerce, Salina Area Technical College, USD 305, and several local industries formed a partnership called the Employee Development Transition Project. The committee identified three high priority career fields that would require highly skilled workers in Salina within the next 5 years:1. Manufacturing Production, especially welding2. STEM – Engineering3. Construction, especially residential
