WINNI&JIMMY’SSHOW Motivation Nowadays, since using smartphone starts to become a current trend, some of us are busy interacting with others through smartphones than actually having a proper conversation with our family and friends.

Hey! I got something fun to tell you! What’s on earth? Why don’t they listen to me?
Honey~ I got something to tell you ! Uh..huh? Can you listen to me?
We want to find out whysmartphone interaction attracts and influences senior high school students so much!
Research Questions What is the smartphone usage among high school students? What are the high school students’ perspectives on the significance and attractions of interpersonal interaction through smartphones? What are the influences of interpersonal interaction through smartphones on high school students?
Definition of the Term • Interpersonal interaction through smartphones • High school students’ social interaction via apps on the smartphone
Methodology-1 • 256 third graders in a senior high • school Subjects
Methodology-2 • Questionnaire • The first section (2 items): to gather • the subjects’ background information Instruments • The second section (6 items): • to collect the subjects’ experience of • using smartphones • 90.14% valid
Methodology-3 • B. Interview (5 items) • 10 interviewees • To further collect more specific and • detailed information Instruments
Study Procedures Design questionnaires and interview questions Select 10 interviewees from the questionnaire subjects to gather detailed information Collect and analyze the quantitative and qualitative data Combine all the data and make a conclusion

The attractions of interpersonal relationship through smartphones-2 (interview Item 3) Student Xue “Smartphone has become an indispensable part of my daily life. I’ll feel bewildered and lonely if I forgot to bring it out with me.”

Teenagers’ experiences of interacting with friends through smartphones (questionnaire part II) According to the survey, we can realize that although smartphones are used by many teenagers,most teenagers would like to interact with people face to face. From Item 5 to 6, most teenagers prefer to interact with others and express their feelings and worry to friends face to face in the real life. From Item 3, over half of the teenagers consider they aren’t happier while using smartphones to interact with friends. From Item 4, 47.82% of the teenagers disagree that they have more intimate relationship with friends using smartphones.

The situation to communicate with others through smartphones-2 (interview Item 4) “ When facing a quarrel, I’m afraid of indifferent attitude from others. Therefore, I feel comfortable that if I can think what I have to say carefully before sending messages.”
The temperature of interpersonal interaction-1(interview Item 5 ) Most of the students chose plus two degrees Celsius as their actual interpersonal interaction temperature.
The temperature of interpersonal interaction-2(interview Item 5 ) • Have more intimate friends • Broaden social circles • Keep the secrets
The temperature of interpersonal interaction-3 (interview Item 5) Have more chances of interaction, but not deeply understand each other at times
The temperature of interpersonal interaction-4 (interview Item 5) “To avoid embarrassing and annoying situations with our friends, we can interact with others through smartphones.” (Student Jian, Pan & Chang)
The temperature of interpersonal interaction-5 (interview Item 5) Student Chang “Although I can have close interaction with friends through smartphones, I often get indifferent response from them in the real life.”
Conclusions-1 • Although technology has increased the opportunities of interaction with friends, most students thought that interacting with people face to face was indispensable. • Through smartphones, the students agreed that they could voice their opinions bravely for themselves while facing embarrassing and uncomfortable situations.
Conclusions-2 • Despite the trend of simplified interpersonal interaction, most students still longed for closer and stronger relationship with their friends.
