What is an exchange? • Laurier has approx. 70 exchange partner universities in almost 30 countries • Almost 100 students are studying abroad this year in Australia, Austria, Chile, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, USA • Study for 1 or 2 semesters at an exchange partner university

  3. Why Study Abroad? Earn credit towards your WLU degree Travel! Further develop your level of independence and cultural understanding Show employers that you have international interests, that you are open to travel and have knowledge of the world outside Canada • Make friends from all over the world!

  4. Can I go on an Exchange? • Business students may only participate on exchange during their 4th year and must apply during their 3rd year • You may need to have a secondary language for some exchanges • Grades: Arts students: must have 7.0 GPA (B-) Science students (excluding Psychology & Kinesiology): must have 4.0 GPA (A-) - If you do not have the required GPA you have the option of requesting a GPA Waiver • Interpersonal & cross-cultural skills and experience • Selection criteria: • You must be in your 3rd or 4th year (you must apply for exchange the year before you wish to study abroad, or participate in a post-degree exchange)

  5. Can I afford an exchange? • Pay full time tuition fees to WLU • Application fee: $25 • Placement fee: $100 (once accepted) • Extra costs include: passport & visa, accommodations, transportation, immunizations, emergency fees, flight, student fees • Eligible for Laurier International awards

Steps to take… 1) Register to attend a Laurier International Exchange Info Session: www.wlu.ca/laurierinternational/ieis 2) Research Exchange Destinations: • Resource Centre: in Laurier International, staffed by student volunteers throughout the week to help you with the exchange process and with the resources available; contains the Personal Reports from previous WLU exchange students, University calendars • Website: links to all of our partner universities: http://www.wlu.ca/page.php?grp_id=151&p=9303 • International Study Abroad Bulletin Board in the Concourse: weekly focus on a new school 3) Submit your application for the 2009-10 academic year by February 6, 2009
