Cornell University • Founded in 1865 by Erza Cornell • One of the eight Ivy League universities • 7 undergraduate units and 4 graduate (including MBA) and professional units in Ithaca (Upstate New York) • Approx. 13,000 undergraduate and 6,000 graduate students, as of 2010 • The Johnson School’s main building is Sage Hall, located on West campus • Source: www.cornell.edu, http://www.johnson.cornell.edu/

  4. Checklist - Before Going to Cornell • Prepare for freezing cold weather in Ithaca! (Approx. -25 C – 5 C during Jan to Mar) • Health check required by Cornell • Rent an apartment • sublet off-campus apt • on-campus housing • Download campus map and Ithaca map from Cornell Website

  5. Weather • Monthly Average for Spring Semester • Jan: Low -25 – High 6 C (Snow) • Feb: Low -16 – High 2 C (Snow) • Mar: Low - 8 – High 3 C (Snow) • Apr: Low -1 – High 21 C (Snow) • May: Low 6– High 25 C • Freezing Cold!!

  6. Accommodation • Off-campus housing • Dryden road • College town • On-campus housing • Maplewood (register for a room through website) • Make sure you get apartment in West campus, near Sage Hall • Check your apartment location with Google map! (walk around 10-20 mins maximum)

Transportation • Plane • Ithaca Airport: Tomkins Airport (ITH) • Nearby Airport: Syracuse (1 hour drive from Ithaca) • Bus • Free TCAT bus for Cornell student in Ithaca area (check route and schedule on www.tcatbus.com) • Bus to NYC (Cornell bus, Shortline with student discount, Greyhound) • Taxi • Ithaca Dispatch 607-277-7777

Checklist - When You Arrive • Mandatory • Present yourself to ISSO • Health check at Garnett (including TB) • Attend orientation at Johnson School • Add/Drop class through website • Optional • Attend orientation (Cornell session) • Get a cell phone number (recommend AT&T or Verizon) • Open a bank account (recommend Bank of America in Downtown or MT&T in College town)

Life @ Johnson School • Small class size, ranging from 15 – 60 studentsper class • Participation is very important • Issues of plagiarism • Always well-prepare before going class • Friendly Environment: easy to blend with full-time students and other exchange students due to small class, 200-300 students per year • Study in library: so many beautiful libraries in campus you should visit!
