  3. WHAT IS ERGONOMICS?

  4. Ergonomics (or human factors) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance." every one will play a role of ergonomist for 10 minutes Ergonomist, one who protects workers ,It derives from a conjunctionofergonand gnomewhere ergon is Greek for work and gnome is a member of a fabled race of dwarfs who protect treasures.

  5. (international ergonomics association) divides ergonomics into three main areas • Physical ergonomics is concerned with how human physicality interacts with the workplace • Cognitive ergonomics is about how mental processes amongst human affect their workplace and systems, and • Organizational ergonomics is concerned with how systems are ordered http://www.iea.cc/

  6. Benefits???

  7. 10 minutes agenda • Preparing for evaluation checklist. • Awareness about right positions in standing ,sitting and using computers. • Giving them a model for analysis of the most musculoskeletal disorders in their work place. • Trying to search for appropriate solutions and giving them some instruction and recommendations.

  8. Evaluation checklist • WORKING POSTURES • SEATING • KEYBOARD/INPUT DEVICE • MONITOR • WORK AREA • ACCESSORIES • GENERAL

  9. What can we observe??? • Positioning of furniture. Are staff having to reach in a way that will cause injury? • Lighting. Is the lighting correct for the conditions and the type of work. Apart from the obvious chance of vision impairment, bad lighting can cause injury if workers collide with inanimate objects or even each other • Positioning of computer screens and related equipment is also very important. Workers can develop neck pain and other symptoms if they are trying to hold their heads at an unnatural angle • Clutter around the workplace. Are the areas of movement free from clutter, which could create a tripping or collision hazard • Are there other hazards such as incorrect or inadequate labeling? • These are just a few basic considerations, but a competent ergonomic assessment will take a comprehensive look at all aspects of a workplace
