  2. Seed Discussions can help students become better independent thinkers and more actively involved in their learning. Students lead the discussions by planting “seeds” that effectively show their knowledge of the reading. As well, good seed questions “grow” when multiple answers are possible. What is a seed Discussion?

  3. How can this activity help us improve our future scores? • Through this process, students are answering questions and responding to statements that they can take ownership of! • Discussion should help clear up plot confusion in preparation for our Unit 2 Assessment Test. • You will hear sound ideas you can add to your annotations. • Analysis developed during this discussion may eventually prove helpful on our ICE!

  4. 1984 Seed Examples • GOOD SEED: What is the party’s intent by sending Winston to Room 101? What is Orwell saying about power and control? Why is this a GOOD seed? • BAD SEED: Where is Room 101 located? Why is this a BAD seed?

  5. Possible Seed Topics… • Highlight sections of the text you did not understand • Make a comment on developing thematic concepts • Consider character development/Orwell’s treatment of particular characters • Begin to develop thoughts on the author’s intent These are simply suggestions!You can create your own unique seeds as well! Please organize your seeds as follows… Questions/ideas concerning: Book III Chs. 1-2 Book III Chs. 3-4
