Uniqueness of the Voice • Your voice is like a finger-print….though similar to others, no two are exactly the same! • Vocal TIMBRE describes the tone quality of the voice. • Registers describe the range of the voice. • Range is the distance from the highest to the lowest pitches that one is able to sing.

  6. Vocal Style • Bel Canto is usually lyrical. It is considered very beautiful. Examples include Charlotte Church, Denyce Graves, Marian Anderson and Beverly Sills. • Blues began in the United States during the times when black people were slaves. It often expresses frustration, longing and sadness. It is truly an American invention and was the predecessor to modern day jazz, rock and country music.

  7. Conclusion • Be sure to look at your vocabulary terms • Be able to identify operatic vocal ranges and give examples of people who have those ranges. • Identify a capella give an example of an a capella group. • Be able to name two styles of Vocal Style and describe them.
