  1. Islamic University of Gaza Faculty of science Medical technology department الجامعة الاسلامية بغزه كلية العلوم قسم التحاليل الطبية IDENTIFICATION OFENTEROBACTERIACEAE Prepared by: Abdullah Ali Supervised by: Dr.Abdellraof el-Manama Dr.Nedal Fayyad

  2. Characteristics of Enterobacteriaceae Members of the Enterobacteriaceae are Gram-negative, straight rods, some of which are motile. Most species grow well at 37°C, although some species grow better at 25 - 30°C. They are facultatively anaerobic, oxidase-negative and catalase-positive (except Shigella dysenteriae type 1). They are distributed worldwide and may be found in soil, water, plants and animals.

  3. Common genera of the family Enterobacteriaceae 7)Morganella morganii 8) Proteus species 9) Providencia species 10) Salmonella species 11) Serratia species 12) Yersinia species 1)Citrobacterspecies 2) Enterobacter species 3) Escherichia species 4) Hafnia alvei 5) Klebsiella species 6) Shigella species

  4. Incidence of Enterobacteriaceae Associated with Bacteremia

  5. Escherichia Escherichia coli

  6. Salmonella

  7. Enterobacter Enterobacteraurogeouns Enterobacter sakazakii

  8. Shigella

  9. Citrobacter

  10. Can they ferment lactose? Can they ferment lactose? (No) (Yes) Can they use citric acid as their sole carbon source? Can they use citric acid as their sole carbon source? Can they use citric acid as their sole carbon source? (Yes) (No) (No) (Yes) Do they produce acetoin? Salmonella Escherichia Shigella (No) (Yes) Citrobacter Enterobacter

  11. Tests: From the previous slide we observe that we need to do the following tests: 1)Lactose fermentation 2)Citrate test 3)Voges-proskauer test

  12. Citrate test

  13. Some disease causing by Enterobacteriaceae species

  14. Conclusion Family Enterobacteriaceae have the following characteristic: 1)Gram-negative rod 2)Non-sporeforming bacteria 3)Facultative anaerobe 4)Motile by peritritchous flagella 5)Oxidase negative 6)Non acid fast bacteria 7)Produce nitrate reductase

  15. Thanks for your attention
