  3. Adult Learners:Professional Development • eLearning KY online PD courses are • accessible anywhere, anytime, anyplace via an Internet-connected computer • providing opportunities to learn and share best practices and resources • eligible for up to 24 hours EILA or PD credit

  6. Secondary Learners:Building Community • Academy of Information Technology @ Bryan Station High School • 35 students – across grade levels • 2 teachers • 1 director • Problem: Little opportunity for whole group interaction and director – student interaction

  7. IT Academy Student Forum • Solution: An online environment that allows the director and students to interact by: • posting announcements • maintaining a calendar • working with groups of students of specific projects • soliciting student feedback via the discussion board

Benefits of the Online Community • Gives the students direct access to the director of the program – a way to feel connected • Allows students to interact with each other, even if they don’t have class together • Provides a common space for announcements, calendar, etc • Is a secure environment • Allows for anytime access from home or school

Primary LearnersOnline Classroom • Third grade classroom at Garden Springs Elementary School • 22 students • 1 classroom teacher • Wireless lab • Computer lab • Home access • Problems • A number of students have internet access at home but did not login in regularly to complete assignments. • Shortage of in school time with students enrolled in online class.

Online Classroom • Possible Solutions: • Write specific directions for parents and students to use when logging in at home. • Make the assignments required allowing students without internet access class time to complete assignments. • Allow students to complete more assignments in the computer lab now that they are more proficient with using Blackboard.

Benefits to the online classroom • Teacher Benefits • Ease of grading assignments from anywhere at anytime • No more excuses about losing assignments • Student Benefits • Enhance technology skills • Complete assignments from home, school or while on vacation. • Students learn the ins and out’s on an online learning environment.
