  3. Lesson Outcomes • To discuss and describe the activities that you have been involved in recently so that you can • Identify how the activities you do meet your needs physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially - PIES

  4. Activities for Health & Wellbeing Activity– using the chart below record the sorts of activities in which you have been involved in the past week.

  5. Activities for Health & Wellbeing Let’s feedback – Discuss what you have done with a partner • Q – Why have they chosen to do those activities? • Q – How, (in what way), do these activities benefit you?

Activities for Health & Wellbeing Lets consider the term PIES – what does it mean? • Physical • Intellectual • Emotional • Social • Now lets go back to the activities that we identified that we do, lets analyse each activity in terms of how it may meet our PIES needs. • Use the work sheet provided to do this activity – 10 minutes • http://www.online-stopwatch.com/countdown-clock/full-screen/

  9. Think and do time! In pairs using any suitable iPad app, create and label a diagram of how the following activities can meet a persons PIES needs. Lets share our diagrams

  10. Discussion Activity – In pairs 5 mins When they thought about the benefits of each activity, did they have a particular age group in mind? Why? Can a range of age groups and abilities do the same activities? Would the benefits of the same activity be the same for different age groups? Give examples to explain your points.

  11. Lets review How does all of this link in to what you will be studying on the full award in Health & Social Care? What do you need to do now?

Homework Organise a research placement • What do you need to do? • Research a number of suitable placements where you could attend 2-3 hours per week every week from September 2014 to End of March 2015 • What would be suitable??? • Nurseries • Care homes • Primary schools • After school care organisations attached to primary schools (e.g. Fun Club) • Approach a prospective organisation to ask if in principle when you start sixth form in September you would be able to do your research placement there. • If successful get details such as; • Name of organisation • Name of person to contact • Contact phone number and email • Provide these details to Mrs Daly on return to school in September
