  5. A POWERFUL INTERNET TOOL THAT… • allows students to find equivalent courses anywhere in Oregon - instantly • shows students the best match between their own course work and degree/major program in Oregon

  6. How does it work? Two Components • 1. Campus-based degree audit systems, e.g. DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System) • CAPP (Curriculum Advising and Program Planning) + • 2. Internet linkage of degree audit systems, e.g. • CAS (Course Applicability System)

  7. What does a degree audit system do? • Tracks course work completed by individual students • Shows which degree requirements have been met and which need to be completed

  8. What does internet linkage add? • A central source of accurate transfer informationfor students and advisors • Immediate comparison of a student’s completed or contemplated course work with degree programs at any linked school

TRY IT YOURSELF • Here’s a demonstration of OREGON ATLAS • that you can use just as a student would. • You can: 1)look for courses anywhere in Oregon that are equivalent to one you need 2)match your courses with a PSU degree program • Print out the next slide as a guide, • and go to http://www.cas.pdx.edu

  16. Note: Areas demarked by different shades of yellow correspond to groups of courses that substitute for each other. You can see this in the General Chemistry example, where lectures and labs go together but are often listed as individual courses. • You will be at a PSU Admissions page • Click “Members” (in red letters in body of text) • MEMBER USERID = Willa@PDX • MEMBER PASSWORD = BAR1 • Note: This login is case sensitive • You will now be in the “Member’s Area” • 1) To look for equivalent courses at other Oregon schools • Go to “Course Equivalency Guides” (buttons on left) • Select school to which courses will transfer: “Portland State Univ.” • Select a method: “Search by Course”. • For example, • Dept./ course prefix Course number • MTH 251 (Calculus) • CH 221 (General Chemistry) • Click “Search” and scroll down the window to view • the results • 2) To match Willa’s courses with a PSU degree program • Go to “Planning Guides” • You can click “View” to see any of the Planning Guides (aka “degree audit”) that have already been run. • To run a fresh audit, click “Request Planning Guide” and follow the directions. It may take a minute for the guide to appear on the page. • You can also add courses to Willa’s list (“Your Courses” button on left) and see how the audit responds. • Click “Log Out” when finished (bottom of left-hand tool buttons) ATLAS in Action at PSU http://www.cas.pdx.edu
