  3. Definition of PEACE • Peace can be a state of harmony or the absence of hostility. • a non-violent way of life. • cessation of violent conflict. • a state of quiet or tranquility — an absence of disturbance or agitation.

  4. Peace can also describe a relationship between any people characterized by respect, justice, and goodwill. • Peace can describe calm, serenity, and silence.   16. Fifty years ago on a cold, grim Easter holiday, a protest was meant to be a watershed: a global call to ban the bomb. People marched from London to a factory in the countryside where Britain built its atomic bombs.

  17. Gerald Holtom was the artist and textile designer who created the PEACE sign. A conscientious objector during World War II, he was driven to the nuclear disarmament campaign, he said, by a feeling of despair.
