  1. Global Warming Emily Neil Charles Bunce Lisa Glowe

  2. Greenhouse Effect • The sun radiates thermal energy that the Earth absorbs (sun’s rays). • The Earth reemits the energy back as infrared radiation (escaping heat). • Some of the radiation is reflected by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere back down to Earth (trapped heat).

  3. More greenhouse gases increase Earth temperatures!

  4. FLOODING • Glacial melting (i.e. Greenland) increases sea levels. • Scientist foresee a 1m increase in sea levels would threaten 72 million citizens in coastal China alone. • The collapse of the W. Antarctic Ice Sheet would potentially increase sea levels by 6m, affecting over 400 million people worldwide.

  5. Drought • Droughts in Midwest during the 80s and 90s caused mass migration. • Tens of thousands moved, leaving behind ghost towns.

  6. Preventing Pollution is a Solution! • Global Warming is a REAL problem affecting the world NOW! • It has already diminished the population of Central American Harlequin Frogs and Polar Bears!
