  2. Before • Before: • This picture is the original Mission Santa Cruz. The Mission Santa Cruz was the 12th mission founded in August 1791. Mission Santa Cruz was founded by Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen. The mission was damaged by several earthquakes and collapsed in 1857.

  3. After • After: • This picture is a replica of Mission Santa Cruz. The replica Mission Santa Cruz that was built in 1931. A Santa Cruz resident, Gladys Sullivan Doyle helped to finance the building of the replica.

  4. The Founder • Mission Santa Cruz was founded by father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen. Although they didn’t have any pictures or statues of him, they had a statue of Father Junipero Serra; the founder of 9 of the 21 missions.

  5. Bells • Contrary to information on the Internet, the replica of Mission Santa Cruz has only one bell.

  6. Chapel • This is the chapel inside the replica. The chapel is used for daily mass by the parish.

  7. Meaning • The words on the arch in the chapel are in Latin which mean: We adore you Christ and we bless you because through your cross you have redeemed the world.

  8. Garden • Here is a picture of the garden in the mission courtyard.

  9. Baptism • This is a picture of an original baptismal font.

  10. Carving • In the picture is a statue of an indian carved by a artist named San Juan Bautista.

  11. Mission Replica • This is the grave of Peter E. Doyle. • Do the math… he was eighty years old.

  12. Blessings Here many people have given thanks to the solders that faught in World War ll.

  13. River of life • In the picture is a door with the symbol of the river of life, just as they did in the old Mission Santa Cruz.

  14. Original Site Now you may think that this is just a church, but it’s not. It is the original site of the old Mission Santa Cruz.

  15. Santa Cruz Mission State Park • These are pictures of Santa Cruz Mission State Park. • The mission community and way of life depended on the labor of Indians that were converted to Catholicism. • This park has the only surviving building from the original mission complex.
