  5. Continuous Load Path

  6. Continuous Load Path • Continuous Load Path • Strengthening the structural frame of your house includes creating a "continuous load path" within your home. So what is a continuous load path? It's a method of construction that uses a system of wood, metal connectors, fasteners (like nails and screws) and shearwalls to connect the structural frame of the house together. A continuous load path is like a chain that ties the house together from the roof to the foundation.

  7. Continuous Load Path • A continuous load path is critical during an earthquake or hurricane because it helps hold the house together when ground forces or high winds try to pull your home apart. A home is more likely to withstand a seismic or high wind event and stay intact when all parts of the house – roof, walls, floors and foundation – are connected together.

  9. Psalm 127:1-2 • Psalm 127:1-2 • Unless the Lord builds a house,      the work of the builders is wasted.   Unless the Lord protects a city,      guarding it with sentries will do no good.2 It is useless for you to work so hard      from early morning until late at night,   anxiously working for food to eat;      for God gives rest to his loved ones. If God doesn't build the house, the builders only build shacks.    If God doesn't guard the city,       the night watchman might as well nap.    It's useless to rise early and go to bed late,       and work your worried fingers to the bone.    Don't you know he enjoys       giving rest to those he loves?

  10. Psalm 127:1-2 • Discuss this verse at your tables. • Put some practical thoughts to what this means in your marriage. • Why does it matter if the Lord builds your marriage?

  11. Leave God out of the picture and suffer the consequences. • This psalm is not a plea for idleness, for God expects you to work and watch (Warren Wiersbe) • Don’t make the mistake of leaving God out of your life (marriage), if you do, all your accomplishments will be futile. Make God your highest priority, and let Him do the building. (Life Application Bible)

  12. What makes up the continuous load path in our marriage? • 10 Core scales that assess a couple’s relationship health. • When crisis hits, how and with what the continuous load path has been built makes all the difference.

  13. Communication – We share feelings and understand each other. • Conflict resolution – We are able to discuss and resolve difference. • Leisure activities-We have a good balance of activities together and apart. • Finances- We agree on budget and financial matters. • Sex and affection – We are comfortable discussing sexual issues and affection. • Family and friends – We feel good about relationships with family and friends. • Spiritual beliefs - We hold similar religious values and beliefs. • Marriage roles - We agree on how to share decision-making and responsibilities.

  14. Proverbs 4:23 • Above all else, guard your heart,    for everything you do flows from it. • Keep vigilant watch over your heart;    that's where life starts. • The condition of our own heart is more important than the actions of our spouse.

  15. Car alarms • “And of course, in a post-9/11 world, we have an even greater sense of the need to be on the alert. But what about spiritual matters? The things that concern our inner man are far more important and eternally consequential than the material goods we might be able to protect. Out of all the areas in life that force us to take "security measures", the Bible presents our effort to protect our heart as the most important of all.” Pastor Greg Allen

  16. As a couple: Talk over your list.

  17. Frank Laubach • American missionary over a century ago • Only missionary on a US stamp 1984 30 cents • “Each one Teach one” Literacy

  18. Philippians 2:4-7 • 4If you've gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don't push your way to the front; don't sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.

  19. A deep-spirited friend…. • Bring out the Christ and His loving rule in one another. • Not by giving advice, but by asking the right questions. • Ministering grace. • Openly share your journey • Richness of soul
