In flower, it will light up a shady corner of the garden and as an evergreen, makes a lovely foil for other flowering plants and ferns. Osmanthus fragrans is a flowering shrub that is commonly known as the fragrant osmanthus. This particular variety of osmanthus is often grown indoors during the colder months. Osmanthus fragrans is quite hardy, and can survive in cold- freeze temperatures. When the weather warms up, cut the stems down to about 3 inches and dry the leaves. You can also freeze osmanthus leaves in ice cube trays and place in the freezer. When the weather cools, simply bring the leaves inside and enjoy.
