  3. Georeference: • To georeference something means to define its existence in physical space. That is, establishing its location in terms of map projections or coordinate systems. • The term is used both when establishing the relation between raster or vector images and coordinates, and when determining the spatial location of other geographical features.

Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system(UTM): The Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) geographic coordinate system uses a 2-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system to give locations on the surface of the Earth. It is a horizontal position representation, i.e. it is used to identify locations on the earth independently of vertical position, but differs from the traditional method of latitude and longitude in several respects. The UTM system divides the surface of Earth between 80°S and 84°N latitude into 60 zones, each 6° of longitude in width. Zone 1 covers longitude 180° to 174° W; zone numbering increases eastward to zone 60 that covers longitude 174 to 180 East.

  6. What is Shapefile ? • The Esrishapefile or simply a shapefile is a popular geospatialvector data format for geographic information systems software. It is developed and regulated by Esri as a (mostly) open specification for data interoperability among Esri and other software products.[ • Shapefiles spatially describe geometries: points, polylines, and polygons. These, for example, could represent water wells, rivers, and lakes, respectively. Each item may also have attributes that describe the items, such as the name or temperature.

  8. Topology:- • A GIS topology is a set of rules and behaviors that model how points, lines and polygons share geometry. For example, adjacent features, such as two counties, will share a common edge. • Topology has long been a key GIS requirement for data management and integrity.

  9. Geodatabase:- • The geodatabase is the common data storage and management framework for ArcGIS. It combines "geo" (spatial data) with "database" (data repository) to create a central data repository for spatial data storage and management. It can be leveraged in desktop, server, or mobile environments and allows you to store GIS data in a central location for easy access and management. • Geodatabase are three types: • File Geodatabases—Stored as folders in a file system. Each dataset is held as a file that can scale up to 1 TB in size. This option is recommended over personal geodatabases. • Personal Geodatabases—All datasets are stored within a Microsoft Access data file, which is limited in size to 2 GB. • ArcSDEGeodatabases—Stored in a relational database using Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, or IBM Informix. These multiuser geodatabases require the use of ArcSDE and can be unlimited in size and numbers of users.

  12. Attribute data management:- • 1.Spatial queries: A spatial query is a query that returns features based on their spatial relationship with a query geometry. This includes searching for features given an extent (finding all streets within an envelope) or searching for features based on their relation to other features.

  15. About adding and deleting fields:- • You can add or remove fields from a table or feature class. Most likely, you'll add or remove fields from data that you personally manage.
