Ratifying the Constitution Do Now: Imagine the principal has created a school wide policy that allows teachers and administrators to search a student backpack for suspected items that violate school rules (cigarettes, weapons, drugs). Student Leadership feels that this policy violates the right of individual students’ privacy. The principal argues that the safety of the larger student population outweigh the rights of the individual student. Whose position would you support? Give your reasons why. Leimkuhler Productions

  2. Vocabulary • Constitution – a written plan that provides the basic framework for a government. When you are talking about the U.S. Constitution, it needs to be capitalized. • Ratify – to formally approve a plan or agreement. The process of approval is called ratification. • Federalist – supporter of the Constitution • Antifederalist – a person who opposed ratification of the Constitution

  3. Classwork/Homework 1. Read pages 234-237. 2. Create a bumper sticker that might have been used to by either Federalists or Anti-federalists to gain support for their opinion. Your poster must include: • A catchy slogan • A visual to accompany each reason • Extra creative touches to make your poster visually appealing, such as a decorative border • Writing that is free from spelling and grammatical errors
