Update on Journal Assessment Impacts Michael V. GoldenSr. Reference Librarian March 29, 2007
Journal Space Givebacks Shelf ft. are generally calculated as cubic feet in library architecture standards. Entire physical journal backfiles and monograph collections have been examined and reshifted (alpha order corrected.) Compact shelving was included in this effort.
Criteria for culling • Available online with full backfile access, non-Elsevier first cut • Also available through two other regional archives or library campuses • Some with Portico (e-safe) now or later. • Stopping point: impact of further cuts results in inconvenience, wait, additional expense to scientists
Satellite Collections Compaction and integration as planned • Bldg. 62 Library, Closed as Planned, 03/07 • Retained two physical journals not available online or frequently requested in print within the last year. Recycled the rest after notifying B62 occupants. • Bldg. 2 Conference Room collection • Retained 4 bookshelves, recycled the rest after notifying collection owner, retired. • There are no further satellite libraries • Donner, closed 2002 • Bldg. 90, closed 2003 • Bldg. 62, closed 2007 • Bldg. 2 -100 closed 2007
