Outsiders. Chapters 1, 2, 3. CHAPTER 1. We see that the Outsiders in Ponyboy’s perspective. He is walking home from the movie, which he attended alone, and he gets jumped by some Socs. His brothers and other greasers come to his rescue, almost instinctively.

  2. CHAPTER 1 • We see that the Outsiders in Ponyboy’s perspective. He is walking home from the movie, which he attended alone, and he gets jumped by some Socs. His brothers and other greasers come to his rescue, almost instinctively. • We learn many characteristics about the Greasers—what they look like, what they do, and their personalities.

  3. CHAPTER 2 • Dally, Ponyboy, and Johnny go to the movies and end up hanging out with Marcia and Cherry. Dally makes Cherry angry with his rude behavior and Cherry takes solace in speaking to Johnny and Ponyboy, because she feels they are kind and sensitive, unlike Dally. • Two-Bit shows up and scares Johnny nearly half to death when he clamps down on his shoulder and says, “Okay, greasers, you’ve had it!” • Ponyboy explains the story of Johnny getting jumped by Socs four months earlier. • Cherry tells Ponyboy that “it’s rough all over.” Pony can’t imagine what Socs have to worry about…

  4. CHAPTER 3 • Go back and look at chapter 3, Write the quote in the text side of your Double Entry Journal and answer these questions on the response side. Explain your answers clearly. • 1. "We aren't in the same class. Just don't forget; some of us watch the sunset too." (p46) What does Ponyboy mean by the second sentence? • 2. "I could fall in love with Dallas Winston." (p46) What does this statement of Cherry’s say about Dally? • 3. Explain Johnny’s reaction when he sees Cherry and Marcia’s boyfriends in the blue Mustang. Why does he react this way?

  5. Chapter 3 • With your group take turns sharing your responses. • Choose one of your responses to share with the entire class. 

  6. CHAPTER 8 • After reading chapter 8, create a summary of it using the “Somebody Wanted But So” summary organizer. • Remember… • Somebody=who was involved? • Wanted= what did that somebody want/hope/try to do in the passage? • But=what was the conflict or problem/obstacle for the characters? • So=how did the conflict in this passage get resolved, or what was the resolution for the “but?”

  7. CHAPTER 4 SUMMARY • Pony and Johnny want to walk to the park to relax and cool off, but Bob, Randy, and other Socs show up and begin a fight that results in Johnny stabbing and killing Bob. So, Pony and Johnny run to find Dally and he gives them supplies and a plan to escape town and avoid the fuzz for a little while.
