  2. What is Dual Credit? It is a program through which learners earn both high school and college credit in approved courses. Courses approved for dual credit can be found on the New Tech High @ Coppell website under the counseling tab.

  3. Which College Provides Dual Credit Courses for NTH@C? • New Tech learners take dual credit courses through Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) without paying tuition and fees. • The learner is responsible for buying textbooks and materials. • North Lake College is our primary DCCCD Campus; however, Brookhaven also offers a few courses and programs to CISD learners.

  4. Dual Credit Program Options • North Lake Individual Courses (Mornings 8:00-9:20) • North Lake Multiple Courses • Morning Block (8:00-10:50) • Afternoon (2:40) • Brookhaven Automotive Program • Brookhaven EMT Program • Brookhaven Child Development Program

Individual Dual Credit Courses • Juniors and Seniors choose from the dual credit courses listed on the NTH@C website. • Coordinate courses with NTH@C schedule. • Learners are entitled to one college release period for each dual credit course. Learners may take up to 1 additional release period for travel. (This period takes the place of Junior /Senior Release). • A learner must attend a minimum of 4 classes at NTH@C.

  6. Automotive Dual Credit Program • Began in 2010-11 school year • Senior learners take 3 courses at NTH@C and are enrolled in 3 college courses at Brookhaven’s automotive facility. • Learner earns a certification upon completion.

  7. EMT ProgramEmergency Medical Technician Program • Dual Credit course offered via partnership with Brookhaven Community College & Coppell Fire Dept. • Course skills will be taught at CHS and applied through practical experience with Coppell FD and Las Colinas Medical Center. • Course has limited number of spaces. • Applications and information obtained by contacting Ray Pool rpool@coppellisd.com.

  8. How does a Learner Enroll? • Pick up & complete enrollment packet or complete it online. • Take registration packet with NTH@C transcript to North Lake’s Dual Credit office/Enrollment Specialist. • Learners will be given a Testing Referral to take the Accuplacer . (Learners can be exempt from the Accuplacer if they have met testing standards on the SAT or ACT or EXIT Level TAKS for current juniors only).

  9. Enrollment cont’d • Once approved to take a course by North Lake, North Lake will provide a Dual Credit Status Report to the student, which the learner will bring to his/her NTH@C counselor. • NTH@C counselor will then sign learner’s enrollment form approving the specific course(s) learner intends to enroll in at North Lake. • Learners must show proof of Meningitis Vaccination prior to enrollment in North Lake Classes.

  10. Enrollment cont’d • Learner enrolls in the course(s) selecting the specific program, teacher and time he/she will take the course(s). • Learners bring verification of course enrollment to NTH@C counselor no later than the date determined by North Lake and the NTH@C, which will change semester to semester. • This process is also posted on the NTH@C website under the counseling dual credit tab. • http://www.coppellisd.com/Page/8907
