Targets of the construction the high speed lines for Poland • Radical reducing the time of journey between the majority of the provincial capitals in Poland. • Increasing the share of the rail transport in passenger service in Poland. • Getting the unrivalled level of the safety in the transport. • Reduction in CO2 emission in the passenger transport. • Creation of image of the Polish railways as modern means of transport.

  3. Program of development of the high speed lines for Poland till 2020 • Construction of a new line Warszawa – Łódź – Poznań/Wrocław with connection to the CMK line • Modernisation of line E 65 (CMK) from Warsaw to Cracow and Katowice (with option to extension to the border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia)

  4. HSL: Warszawa – Łódź – Poznań/Wrocław • New line of about 450 km • Maximum speed 350 km/h • System of traction supplying 25 kV AC • Time of journey: • - Warsaw – Łódź: 35 minutes • - Warsaw – Poznań: 1h 35 min • - Warsaw – Wrocław: 1h 40 min

Calendar of the project • 2005– working out the the Feasibility Study of construction of the high speed line Poznań/Wrocław – Łódź – Warsaw • February 2008 - pointing the Inter-governmental Team for KDP construction • March - July 2008 – working out the Program of construction and start up high speed railways in Poland, counsel of the Program at Ministries and Regional Authorities • April – June 2008 – working of the Forecast of the influence on the environment for the HSL Program. • 9 December 2008 – invitation to the tender for working the FeasibilityStudy for HSL • 19 December 2008– adopting a resolution of the government of the Republic of Poland of the strategic Program of construction and starting HSL in Poland Warszawa, 29.09.09

Calendar of the HSL implementation • PREPARATION: • 2008 - Announcement the tender for preparing the Feasibility Study, • 2011 - The finishing and the presentation of results of theStudy - choice of the route of the line • 2012-2013Decisions for localisation the line and land aquisition • REALISATION: • 2014-2019Building works; putting into operation no later than in 2019,

Complementary action for the HSL realisation • Realisation of the accompanying infrastructure (the alteration of railway nodes, enabling the network of conventional lines to insert the HSL into the system, the construction/alteration of stations for the operation of travelling HS trains • Building of maintenance centres • Modernisation investments on lines, making direct prolonging the HSL • Connection HSL with an central airport • Promotional action towards all actors of Program (on all stages of its realisation) • Training personnel for designing, construction and the supervision and the HSL operation. 9

Other tied projects and studies • The feasibility Study for Warsaw node - at present under the realisation. • The feasibility Study for modernisation line E 65 (CMK) – at present under the realisation. • The feasibility Study for construction of the tunnel of diametral railways in Łódź - at present under the realisation. • The feasibility Study for Łódź, Poznań,and Wrocław nodes. • Construction of the new central station in Łódź with the multimodal centre and modernisation stations in Wrocław, Poznań and Warsaw .

HSL Warszawa – Katowice (Zebrzydowice) – Kraków • PREPARATION: • July 2009 – starting the of the feasibility study for the modernisation (construction of new sections) of line • 2012 – finishing the Study. • REALISATION: • Adapting the CMK line to 200 km/h in the first stage (at present under the realisation) • 2014-2020 Modernisation up to parameters of the HSL line

Options of the modernisation of the CMK line analysed at the study • Option 1: 220 - 230 km/h, electrification 3 kV DC • Option 2: 250 km/h, electrification 25 kV AC • Option 3: 300 km/h, electrification 25 kV AC • The modernisation or construction of new sectionsto Katowice and farther to the border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia • The modernization or construction of new sections to Cracow
