  1. A mixed integer linear programming model for production planning in the pig industry Esteve Nadal/ L. M. Plà Aragonés Departmentof Mathematics Universitat de Lleida June-2012

  2. Index • Introduction • Pigproductionsystem • Themixedinteger linear model • Results • Furtherresearch & conclusions

  3. Introduction • Pig production in Spain has increased in last years. • Technical progress: artificial insemination, use of computers, devices to capture data automatically,… • Farm’s Specialization Source: BDporc

  4. Pig production system Transportation

  5. The mixed integer linear model

  6. The mixed integer linear model • Maximize revenue • Distances between farms are taken into account • Continuous reproduction in sow farms • All-in-all-out management in fattening farms • Income according auction market price • #trucks as integer variables

  7. The mixed integer linear model

  8. The mixed integer linear model

  9. The mixed integer linear model

  10. The mixed integer linear model

  11. Results • Implemented with ILOG OPL and solved with Cplex v12.5 • Pentium 2.10GHz. / 4Gb RAM • Execution time: 10min / GAP= 0.12% • The proposed model allow to determine the optimal transportation routes for the animals. • Forecast of need for trucks is available • Farms without activity are showed up

  12. Further research & conclusions • Plannning. When?, Where?, What? to transfer • Simulations. Supply chain changes • Stochastic variables are needed to be focused mainly in Sow farms: • Litter, probability of dead,… • New farms makes the problem complex in time. Parallelization.
