  1. 829 Distinguish between mass and weight using appropriate measuring tools and units.

  2. Distinguish between mass and weight using appropriate measuring tools and units. Key concepts/skills: Level 1: Define key vocabulary. Level 2: Know the difference between mass and weight. Level 3: Recognize the difference between mass and weight, kilograms and Newtons, and the tools used to measure mass and weight, given specific situations.

  3. Distinguish between mass and weight using appropriate measuring tools and units. Key vocabulary Mass Weight Pan balance Kilogram scales Kilograms Grams Newtons

  4. Distinguish between mass and weight using appropriate measuring tools and units. • Mass • The amount of matter in an object • Mass is always constant for an object no matter where in the universe the object is • Mass is measured on a triple beam balance or a kg scale • Mass is expressed in kilograms (2.2 lbs) for large objects and grams for small objects • I have the same mass anywhere in the room, on a mountain, in a cave, in a plane, on another planet

  5. Distinguish between mass and weight using appropriate measuring tools and units. II. Weight A. A measure of gravitational force on the object. 1. Weight varies depending on where the object is in relationship to the earth 2. Weight is measured using a spring scale 3. Weight is a force and all forces are measured in Newtons (N)

  6. Distinguish between mass and weight using appropriate measuring tools and units. 4. If we know an objects mass on earth we can calculate its weight because 1kg (mass) = 10 Newtons (weight). Thus we multiply the mass by 10 5. My weight changes depending on where I am in the universe because weight is a measure of gravity on my body and gravity changes

  7. My weight in pounds 160 1 kg = 2.2 poundsdivided by 2.2 My Mass in kilograms 72.7 1 kg = 10 Newtonsx 10 My weight in Newtons 727

  8. Distinguish between mass and weight using appropriate measuring tools and units. III. Gravity A. The force of attraction between all objects in the universe 1. Gravity changes between object as the mass of the objects and the distance between them changes 2. Since gravity changes with distance and weight is a measure of gravity, weight changes with changes in location

  9. Distinguish between mass and weight using appropriate measuring tools and units.
