  1. Year 3 Welcome Evening Year 3 Team Mrs R Bowser – Key Stage Leader Mr C Jandu Miss R Allick Miss S Asghar Mrs B Taylor Supported by Mrs Milner and Mrs Jones

  2. Aims for Year 3 • Help your children grow both academically and socially by encouraging them to become more active members of the school community. • More independent and responsible for themselves.

  3. Sets • Children have been set for Numeracy and Literacy this term. • Ensures correct level of support and teaching. • Children are covering the same objectives but at a different pace. • Children are regularly assessed and could therefore change sets. • The children work in their classes for Science and Topic and cover the same objectives. • Children may also be in extra targeted support groups throughout the week.

  4. Targets • All children have targets that they are working towards in Literacy, Numeracy and Science • Copies of Literacy and Numeracy targets will be given out at parents evening. • Speaking and listening targets are on the curriculum news. • Achievable. • Raise attainment and understanding.

  5. Integrated Topic • All art, music, DT, history and geography will be taught through a main focus, which for this term is ‘Ancient Civilisations’. • We will be using a variety of learning approaches to support and enhance all children’s preferred learning styles. • Learning styles have been discussed with the children. • Spring Term topic will be ‘Africa’. • Summer Term topic will be ‘Keen to be Green’ .

  6. Homework • All children- 15mins reading daily. Every child has a Reading Record book to be filled in when they read. They can read to parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins. • 1 Hour weekly. • Numeracy- given on a Monday to be handed in by Wednesday. • Literacy - given on Wednesday to be handed in by Friday. • Topic/Science – given on a Friday to be handed in on Monday.

  7. Homework • Children may wish to do some of their own research about the topics covered each term but this is not essential. • Learning tables is essential. All children have been provided with times tables sheet. • Children will also be given Spelling strategies to learn on a weekly basis.

  8. What more homework?! • All homework will be written in a homework diary. These homework diaries are to be checked and signed at home. • Signed by teacher on a Friday. • Please use the homework diaries as a way of communication if necessary.

  9. PE Kit • PE will be on a Monday and Friday for 3RB and on a Tuesday and Friday for 3CJ. • Please ensure that your child has the correct coloured T-Shirt and shorts. • PE kit should consist of bare foot or plimsolls for indoor games and outdoor trainers + tracksuit for colder weather or outdoor games. • Swimming will be on a Wednesday for 3RB and 3CJ .

  10. PE Requirements • Please make sure that everything is named. • Only stud ear rings allowed in school but need to be removed for games and PE. • Children must be able to put their own earrings in themselves. • No nail polish allowed in school. • Hair to be tied up where possible and hair clips and hairbands removed. • If the children wear trainers they must be able to tie their laces.

  11. Expectations of Behaviour • The children are very familiar with the Millbrook Message, Rules and Consequences. • It is expected that ALL children follow these rules at All times. • Reinforcement from home is essential. • If your child receives a letter home regarding their behaviour, please discuss it with your child and return the slip to school. • If you have any concerns about your child’s behaviour in school, please make an appointment to see myself.

  12. Medical • The correct forms must be filled in for prescription medication. • Prescription medication must come to school in the box with the printed label on. • Parents must ensure that all inhalers or epipens in school are in date. • Any antibiotics that can be given outside of school hours is recommended. • Staff will not be able to administer non-prescription medicines to a pupil. • Children are not permitted to have any creams, throat sweets or eye drops on themselves or in their bags. No non-prescribed medicines are allowed in school.

Healthy Lunchboxes • Collection of meal charges is through a cashless system where money can be loaded onto your child's account through ParentPay • http://learning.millbrook.bucks.sch.uk • /year group information • Please ensure that you continue to give your child a healthy lunchbox. A healthy lunchbox = better behaviour & learning!

  14. Trips All trips below have been provisionally booked but at the moment they are: • Autumn Term- Church Trip – date to be confirmed • Spring Term- Horniman Museum – date to be confirmed • Summer Term- Shortenills – date to be confirmed • Contributions!!

  15. Year 3/4 Spring Production • Year 3 will be contributing to the acting and so we will be sending home lines to learn around half- term. • Parents will be invited to watch the show on Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th March 2012.

  16. Parent Evening Dates 29th November and 1st December 2011 Do not hesitate to contact the school if you wish to speak to Mr Jandu or myself. We will always be able to make an appointment to see you. Please let us or the office know if any contact numbers change.
