  3. Fought with massive Navy warships and new high tech airplanes • Island hopping strategy • Airplanes and warships were equipped with bigger weapons than any war before them

  4. The allies started a counter offensive after Japan took over their territoriesand slowly gained back their territory • Important battles • Pearl Harbor • Coral Sea • Midway • Tarawa • Truk • Phillipine Sea • Okinawa • Iwo Jima • Over 350,000 Americans soldiers died • Over 2,100,000 Japanese soldiers died • Japan surrendered August 15th 1945
