  2. To build a team of 2 autonomous robots to track a special light-emitting ball and kick goals against an opposing team within an enclosed field. Your mission

  3. The leagues Open League • Any robot kit or building block, either commercial or from raw hardware may be used as long as the robot meets the remaining soccer rules. • Must weigh less than 2.5kg. Novice League • Robots are to be constructed using strictly LEGO brand pieces, motors and sensors only plus an after market Compass sensor. • No other building materials can be used, including glue, tape, screws etc. • Teams can not have any member with greater than two years experience in playing RCJ Soccer at a state or national level. • Must weigh less than 1kg.

  5. The ball An infrared (IR) ball 7.5 - 8.0cm in diameter. 2 modes: - In the Open League the ball will be pulsed. - In the Novice League the ball will be unpulsed. It is very important for teams to decide very early on which League to enter and in turn how to program their robots based on the mode of the ball.

  6. Robots overview Size limit - For both Leagues robots must be able to fit within a 22cm diameter by 22cm high cylinder. Weight limit - Novice League: Max 1kg. - Open League: Max 2.5kg. Control - Robots must be autonomous. - The use of any type of remote control is not allowed. Teams - All teams will consist of no more than 2 robots.

Robot must haves A way to move - Novice League: 2 wheels and a castor are best. - Open League: Omni directional wheels work well. - If you can make your robots walk then we’d love for you to enter too! A way to find and track the ball - Novice League: Only LEGO light sensors. - Open League: Any light sensors of your choice. A way to find the opposing goal - Both Leagues can use any commercial compass sensor. - Light sensors can also be used to detect colour gradient changes..

Teams Overview - Unlimited team members - Each team is required to nominate a “Captain” that will be charge of placing and starting/stopping the robots during each game. - Dress your team and robots up in matching team colours like a real soccer team! Interview - Teams will undergo a 5-10 minute interview in which they must demonstrate their understanding of their robots and their operation. - Proof (photos, log books, plans etc.) must be supplied that the robots have been constructed and programmed by the students. - Proof of full understanding of the program must be shown.

  9. Game play Length of game - Games consist of two 10 minute halves. - 5 minute break between halves. - Organisers will try to allow for 10 minutes of setup time between games.

  10. Game play Scoring - A goal is scored when the whole of the ball crosses the goal line and hits the back wall of the goal. - After a goal is scored the non-scoring team will be awarded the ball for the kick-off.
