JEAN VANIERHEALTH AND WELLNESSSPECIALIST HIGH SKILL MAJOR • The SHSM is a Ministry approved program offered to grade 10 students going into grade 11 • This program is open to all workplace, college and university bound students. • The SHSM program allows students to explore and prepare for careers in medicine, health care, teaching, psychology, social work, kinesiology, fitness, food and nutrition, veterinary medicine and much more  • The program is a two year commitment that “bundles” various inter-related courses, including a cooperative education placement.   • While in the program students in grade 11 and 12 earn certifications such as First Aid /CPR and are exposed to various “reach ahead” experiences through facility field trips, guest speakers and visits to colleges and universities • Students who successfully complete the required program components will earn a Red Seal on their Ontario Secondary School Diploma

  14. Student Selection Criteria Requirements of Co-op • Be at least 15 years of age in grade 11 • Earned at least 15 credits • Complete a Co-op Educational Application Form • Submit 2 teachers letters of Reference • Successfully complete an interview with a member of the Co-op Department

  16. SHSM **Specialist High Skills Major -The college biology & chemistry are both available to those students interested in the health-care SHSM - The SNC4M course is a medical science course which specializes in biotechnology and scientific aspects of Health science
