  1. Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product By Nathan Smith

  2. Research When doing research into to film production industry I discovered multiple interesting points about the Internet, DVD extras, audio commentaries and other features. What I had learnt from the internet is that how it can be used to advertise specific films (like monsters for example) offering interactive services for customers attracting them to the film. But also allowing the customer to use other sources such as QR codes to unlock exclusive content from the website making customers more interested in the film and website. Overall what I had learnt about the internet is that it offers a unique way of advertising to the public. What I had learnt about DVD extras from this process is that some scenes filmed cannot be placed into the final product and that some scenes cannot be filmed instantly and errors will be made. Finally when researching into audio commentaries is that sometimes the best way to convey specific feelings or emotions about certain aspects or scenes rather than just reading them on paper.

  3. Planning When planning out the filming process of our opening sequence we learned the different ways to place both the camera and the tripod to gain different camera shots and angles to convey different feelings for the viewers. For example we used a over-shoulder shot to show who is currently leading the conversation and giving a unique variant to a single shot based conversation. Also we used a 180 degree rule to track and follow John and Kyle as they move into the seating room to talk business offering another unique way than showing a collage of flat shots. Overall when planning we had found multiple ways to adjust and move the cameras and tripod to give off different concepts of power and leading a scene.

  4. Construction-planning When constructing our media opening I had learnt a lot on how to plan out, film, edit and generally produce a film. From the planning process I had learnt how to plan an opening sequence by first of all designing a storyboard for the layout of the opening. Also when planning out the media sequence I had also learnt on how to properly write out a script to state the emotions and stage directions outside of the line (I usually had the issue of placing emotions and stage directions into the lines.

  5. Construction-camera When creating the media opening I had learnt a massive amount about how a camera can convey different elements such as status and emotion. For example by using a high angle shot we can use the shot to make one person look higher than the others or by using a handheld camera I can convey the feeling of fear and intimidation in one scene. Also I have learnt the 180 degree rule to establish the scene of a conversation in the opening and setting a scene for a specific scene or area in which a scene takes place. An example of an over-shoulder shot to establish who is leading the conversation. A picture of the 180 Degree rule.

  6. Evaluation The information that I had learnt from studying the technologies from the process of constructing the product were how to use camera shots to convey multiple feelings of power and status. How they can be used to establish the leading character in a scene as well as how that can easily change by showing a variation of different shots. Also when researching it helped me learn that not everything can be done instantly and sometimes things need to be redone in order for them to be the best that they can possibly be (camera shots for example). Another point I had learnt when researching is there can be unique ways in advertising a film or product an example being the promotional activity of the “infected zones” for the movie Monsters. Finally when researching I had learnt that the best ways to convey an opinion or specific feelings about certain factors/topics is to talk about them to your audience rather than write about them because the text doesn`t capture the depth of your emotions about the topic. When constructing the final product I had learnt that you must plan everything before had and see if the product looks appealing to the audience as well as making sure that you stay on topic. When looking back at my media product we did have a general idea on what to create but got lost along the way when creating it and eventually became something unworthy of being marked. So overall in the construction I had learnt to plan effectively what to do and to stay on topic and make sure that the final result produced is of a high quality and can be marked a high grade (and that it is an actual film opening rather than a media clip more likely to be seen on YouTube). When looking at the overall information I had learnt from studying the processes of creating a media product I can definitely say I have learnt a massive amount about the film industry as well as the technologies involved in their production. Even though my groups first product wasn`t of a high quality I can say that we produced a second product of a high standard and quality while sticking to the original theme and genre that we had started out with an action comedy.
