  1. HOW TO DECLUTTER YOUR WORK FROM HOME DESK: AN ULTIMATE GUIDE

  2. Thinking of trying to be productive in a cluttered space? Well, sorry to disappoint you but, in no way, this is possible. The reason is – clutter not only makes you feel distracted but also makes it difficult to locate things you need. So, the best way to finish your work on time and stay productive is to declutter your work from home desk.

  3. Read on to learn about some helpful ways to maintain a clean desk and, hence, stay refreshed for all the short, medium and long term tasks at hand.

  4. STEP1: Have a look at your desk to determine the space you have. Think about how you have been using it. Ask yourself if it is too small for your work-related needs or it is too big and you have not been using your desk space properly.

  5. STEP2: Make a list of all the essential things that need on the table all the time and in your reach to make your work easier. Stationary, laptop/computer, phone, mouse, chargers are a few things that should always be around.

  6. STEP3: Go through the list and check what requisites you have on your desk right now. Separate the things you need on your desk and get rid of the additional stuff that you don’t usually use.

  7. Like if you have been using books but now you don’t get time to read anyway, put it in the cupboard or pile of excluded materials.

  8. STEP4: Decluttering is not a one-day process; you need to be a little practical about what you are expecting to achieve and in what time frame. Better make decluttering part of your daily routine and take 10 minutes a day to clean your desk.

  9. STEP5: Brining in some plants is a good way to imbue the space with a sense of greenery and nature. You can also consider placing some framed achievements or motivational quotes on the wall as it will inspire you to keep going. Find out what you’d really value that helps in boosting your productivity.

  10. STEP6: If you have your desk right in front of the wall, be sure to maintain some gap between the wall and your desk. Avoid cramming the table with everything you like, let the desk space breathe as well.

  11. When there is no wall support, extra items on the desk will keep falling off the table. And that is why keeping some space between your table and the wall is recommended; it helps you realize that there is limited space on the table and only the important and useful things needs to be there on the table.

  12. STEP7: Make a habit of cleaning your desk everyday once your work is complete. Just like you make bed after you get up in the morning, make your table after you are done working. If there is clutter on your desk, it would be obvious to not find the right file at the right moment, hence your productivity will hamper.

  13. STEP8: Lastly, no matter what approach you choose, just try not to shift your extra desk item into the drawers! There is no point of decluttering if you end up cluttering other spaces. If you start doing that, there is no way you can keep the space clean for long as eventually you will pile up the desk again.

  14. A good idea is to separate your items into piles and label them as things you need to keep, things you no longer want and things you have to do something with. This way, you will find the right thing at the right time at the right place, increasing your productivity without killing your own momentum.

  15. THE TAKEAWAY As mentioned earlier, decluttering is not a one-time job, it is a routine. Make sure you do not end up cluttering other spaces to organize those in your plan one as this can cause you more frustration in the long run. It’s better to take small steps everyday like cleaning your table every single day.

  16. If you think your current table fails to keep your important things altogether, consider investing in a solid wood Amish table that gives you enough space to keep important documents and stationary in front of you.
