    1. Analysis of Carbonate Lithologies using QEMSCAN®

    2. Background Intellection is currently involved in the analysis of a range of carbonates lithologies from the Middle East, Eastern Mediterranean, India, and Southern England.   We are able to differentiate calcite from dolomite, ankerite and siderite. We can also quantify the amount of quartz, clays, chlorite and glauconite, as well as heavy minerals present.   Our technology allows imaging of most common textures such as: various styles of dolomitisation; oolitic and pisolitic features; carbonate cements; macro- and meso-porosity; general fossil and bone debris; and silicification of corals.

    3. QEMSCAN® - system overview Automated electron beam mineral and rock analysis system Custom design combines BSE, SE and X-ray detection Unique chamber design and control electronics support four EDS detectors for high acquisition speed and topographic imaging Image based system with X-ray chemical analysis The Instrument Based on a Zeiss EVO50 series Scanning Electron Microscope; Up to 4 light-element Bruker X-ray detectors (Nitrogen free) The Technology Automated image analysis system Utilises Backscattered Electron (BSE) and Energy Dispersive (EDS) X-ray signals Customised sample holders, either 16 individual resin blocks (cuttings) or up to 12cms of core QEMSCAN™ combines features found in other analytic instruments such as a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) or Electron Probe Micro Analyser (EPMA) into the next generation of analytic solution designed for unattended, high productivity analysis of rocks. The Solution Creation of digital images, on-line automatic mineral identification, and off-line data mining, using QEM*SEM® technology and iExplorer software Based on a combination of advanced computer controlled SEM and EDS technology, QEMSCAN™ measures and identifies thousands of points in a sample in just seconds, providing statistically sound results unmatched by any other analytic technique. 4. How QEMSCAN® identifies minerals QEMSCAN™ uses advanced eBeam technology from Carl Zeiss SMT; combines this with state of the art Nitrogen-free Energy Dispersive Spectrometers (EDS); and then integrates these using the flexible iDiscover™ software suite to provide a comprehensive solution capable of identifying most rock-forming minerals in just milliseconds. Based on a combination of advanced computer controlled SEM and EDS technology, QEMSCAN™ measures and identifies thousands of points in a sample in just seconds, providing statistically sound results unmatched by any other analytic technique. The iDiscover™ software not only controls the operation of the eBeam hardware but also analyses the data generated to provide information about the chemical and mineral composition of the sample. Using Microsoft® .NET technology this advanced analytic software suite provides information and tools designed for use by geologists, mineralogists, metallurgists, chemical engineers and others in applications ranging from exploration, though production to remedial and environmental monitoring.QEMSCAN™ uses advanced eBeam technology from Carl Zeiss SMT; combines this with state of the art Nitrogen-free Energy Dispersive Spectrometers (EDS); and then integrates these using the flexible iDiscover™ software suite to provide a comprehensive solution capable of identifying most rock-forming minerals in just milliseconds.
