  1. Omronhealthcare-ap.com (AU) Infant’s Wellness through Ears The health of the infant is usually known from the body temperature. It is an easy process for the medical practitioners, but a new mother can panic even in this simple process considering the safety of the child. Many mothers as well as medical practitioners have moved their focus on the ear thermometers for new-borns to measure their body temperature. Ear thermometers are also known as Tympanic Membrane. All objects radiate heat. To measure the body temperature, this ear thermometer uses an infrared sensor incorporated in its probe to detect the heat radiated from the eardrum and the area around it. In general, the ear canal (external auditory canal) of an infant is relatively straight; therefore ear thermometers for new-borns become easy to use. But the new mothers are dense about the use of these units. A proper protocol is followed on how to use an ear thermometer for infants. Turn on the thermometer. Gently place the thermometer in your child's ear. Keep in mind that earwax or a small, curved ear canal can interfere with the accuracy of an ear thermometer temperature. Hold the thermometer tightly in place until the thermometer signals that it's done. Remove the thermometer and read the number. A child has a fever if he or she has an ear temperature of 100.4 F or 380C, and is 3 months old or younger. In these cases, a parent should not avoid visiting a doctor as it could harm the health and growth of the infant. People all around the world are witnessing the popularity of the ear thermometers for newborns as they are easy to use and affordable. Not to mention the risk of inhaling mercury is next to zero. When a glass mercury thermometer breaks, the mercury evaporates and dissolves in the air that could harm everyone. Therefore, they are not recommended now and have been replaced by ear thermometers.
