  5. Robert Kett Links with business, PSHE • Robert Kett came from a middle class family from Wymondham. He was a wealthy businessman. • In 1549, the local commoners rose in revolt against the injustices of the Tudor government. Kett listened to the rebels who wanted to pull down the hated fences that enclosed the common lands and helped them. Kett became the leader of the rebellion, led his supporters to a camp on Mousehold. He gained support and eventually captured the city. • Eventually he was captured and executed, but the spirit of Kett swept across East Anglia. Elizabeth Fry Links to Science, Maths, childcare, society and ethics • Elizabeth was a social reformer, a Quaker and was known as the angel of prisons. • She was born in Norwich to the famous Gurney, Quaker family. She quickly took an interest in the poor, the sick and prisoners • Her work massively improved life in prisons. She established shelters in London for the homeless and opened a training school for nurses. Tags: Being caring, charity, helping the needy. (Banknote, helping hand)

Justin Fashanu Links to Sport, Society and Ethics • Justin Fashanu was an English footballer who was brought up by foster parents near Attleborough. • He was a boxer when young but quickly got into football and became the first million pound player with his transfer from Norwich City to Nottingham Forest. His best years were at Norwich however. He is remembered for his goal of the season against Liverpool. • He was the first openly gay footballer.   8. Violet Aitken Links to history, society and ethics, english. • Violet Aitken was the daughter of Canon Aitken of Norwich Cathedral. She was a Suffragette prisoner and hunger striker. • She was a journalist for “the suffragette” • Her parents were horrified at her radicalism. She ended up living to 101 years old. Tag: Standing up for what you believe in. Is it ever right to break the law? Courage.
