  12. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page HESI Testing All candidates must complete the HESI A2 test within the testing period of the class they plan to attend. Candidates must contact the Testing Center to schedule the HESI test. Candidate must have a signed Referral Form the Health Science department on day of scheduled HESI test. Candidates will have two (2) HESI A2 testing attempts during a testing period. Return to last viewed page

Return to Requirement Return to Home Page Pre-Requisites All pre-requisites must be completed with a “C” or higher with a cumulative 2.50 GPA prior to enrollment in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Candidate currently enrolled in one or more of the pre-requisites will be considered for selection at a lower priority than those candidates who have completed the pre-requisites by the posted deadline date. The Associate Degree Nursing program is TSI liable. All Associate Degree Nursing students will be required to be TSI complete before graduation from the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Hill College will only accept the most current grade for any college level course listed on the current Associate Degree Nursing Degree Plan. Return to last viewed page

  14. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page College Transcripts All official college transcripts must be on file with Hill College. The Associate Degree Nursing Nursing staff must be able to access all transcripts via the Hill College Docubase system. Candidates must contact the Health Science Department to verify that all transcripts are accessible. Return to last viewed page

  15. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page High School ALL Candidates must submit to the Health Science Department an official copy of their High School transcript. Previous college work DOES NOT EXCLUDE the candidate from this requirement. Return to last viewed page

Return to Requirement Return to Home Page Immunization The student must complete all immunization requirements before doing direct patient care, failure to complete the immunization requirements will result in clinical absences. If the candidate can not find their original immunization records they can request a serological blood test (titer). A positive serological (titer) confirmation of immunity must be submitted to the Health Science Department. The student must show proof that they have received the Hepatitis B Series #1 and #2 BEFORE registering in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The Hepatitis B series schedule: Hep B #1, Hep B 2 one month later, Hep B #3 four to six months after the first. Return to last viewed page

Return to Requirement Return to Home Page Health Science Background Policy Any Candidate with eligibility issues related to criminal convictions seeking consideration for entry in one of the Hill College Nursing program must be aware of the following: Candidates with an eligibility issue must provide to the Health Science Department documentation that they have completed the Texas Board of Nursing Declaratory Order prior to the posted deadline date. Candidates with pending Declaratory orders at the posted deadline date will be considered at a lower priority for selection. Candidates who have previously completed the Declaratory Order process must summit all related criminal court documents to the Health Science Department.  Having a Board of Nursing approval letter does not guarantee the student entry in the Vocational Nursing Program nor does it guarantee the student will be able to attend clinical.  Failure to disclose any eligibility issue prior to admission in the Vocational Nursing Program WILL result in Automatic Dismissal from Associate Degree Nursing Program. Clinical facilities have the right to refuse to allow any student completion of a clinical rotation at their facility for any issue related to an eligibility issue. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page Texas Occupation CodeTexas Administrative Code Upon selection in the Associate Degree Nursing program the student will be required to become familiar with the Associate Degree Nursing Program, Texas Board of Nursing, Texas Occupation Code, Texas Administrative Code and the Nurse Practice Act. The following list of Rules are for information only.   20. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page CPR All candidates must submit a valid CPR card. The CPR expiration date must extend past the graduation date of the Associate Degree Nursing program. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page Board of NursingCriminal Background Policy Any student who acknowledges criminal arrest/convictions MUST be referred to either Dean Lori Moseley or Dr. Linda Johnson. Do not ask for details. Do Not speculate on this matter. Rule §213.28 – Licensure of Persons with Criminal Convictions The Texas Board of Nursing (BON) may refuse to approve persons to take the licensure examination, may refuse to issue or renew a license or certificate of registration, or may refuse to issue a temporary permit to any individual that has been convicted of a felony, a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or engage in conduct resulting in the revocation of probation imposed pursuant to such a conviction. The practice of nursing involves clients, their families, significant others and the public in diverse settings. The registered and vocational nurse practices in an autonomous role with individuals who are physically, emotionally and financially vulnerable. The nurse has access to personal information about all aspects of a person’s life, resources and relationships. Therefore, criminal behavior whether violent or non-violent, directed against persons, property or public order and decency is considered by the Board as highly relevant to an individual’s fitness to practice nursing. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page TOEFL Waiver The student can request a TOEFL waiver form from the Health Science department if they meet the following criteria: Completion with a “C” or better of 4 different college level English courses and 1college level communication course; from an accredited US college/university.   26. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page TOEFL Policy Students must demonstrate English proficiency as an admission requirement. This may be demonstrated by one of the following: a. Attended four years of high school in one of the 50 United States and receiving a diploma OR b. Attended two years of high school in one of the 50 United States and passed the GED OR c. Acceptable GED scores from one of the 50 United States and acceptable scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language Test (TOEFL) within the two years of the posted deadline date of program application. TOEFL minimum Internet score of 80 or a computer-based TOEFL score of 250 or a paper/pencil test score of 600. Scores will not be considered if they are more than two years old. TOEFL Test score reports must be sent directly to the Health Science Department from the testing center. Information about the TOEFL may be obtained from the web site: www.ets.org/toefl or by calling 1-800-468-6335. TOEFL - The student can request a TOEFL waiver form from the Health Science department. The following requirements must be met before the waiver is considered: Waiver form completed Official Transcripts attached Resume any further documents that detail their knowledge base that shows continual education knowledge of the science course waiver requested. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page Course Evaluation If the students academic course prefix/number are different from those listed on the Hill College Degree plan must submit a Health Science course evaluation form. The following requirements must be met before the waiver is considered: Evaluation form completed (contact Health Science for form) Official Transcripts attached Course descriptions for all courses to be evaluated from the college attended.   29. Return to Requirement Return to Home Page Health Screening All student must submit a Health Screening prior to enrollment in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The health screening MUST be on the approved Health Science health screening form The student must be able to do the following: Is applicant physically and emotionally able to perform in assigned position? Emotional and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position. Strength sufficient to: lift some patients, move heavy equipment on wheels (up to approximately 150 lbs), and to move patients in wheelchairs and stretchers. Return to last viewed page

Approximate cost: $42.00 Upon selection the student MAY be required to submit to a random drug test is the director/faculty feel that the student is under the influence of a drug or alcohol during the educational process. These courses need to be completed with a “C” or higher before graduation from the Associate Degree Nursing Program. BIOL 2420 Microbiology (BIOL 2421 is acceptable) – If over 5 years see course waiver PSYC 2301 General Psychology BCIS 1305 Business Computer Application PSYC 2314 Human Growth and Development SPCH 1331 Intro to Speech or SPCH 1315 Public Speaking Humanities/Fine Arts Elective Choose one of the following (prefer Algebra): CHEM 1406 Introductory Chemistry I– If over 5 years see course waiver MATH 1314 College Algebra (preferred)

Return to Requirement Return to Home Page Pre-Orientation ALL accepted and alternate candidates must attend a 2 day orientation session prior to registration in the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Candidates who have tests scheduled on the day(s) of the orientation will need to submit documentation from the instructor in order to be excused from the orientation day. The candidate will be required to make an appointment with the Health Science Department for the pre-orientation information missed. Candidates who do not submit documentation or do not attend the scheduled orientation WILL have their position in the class filled by the next qualified alternate. Return to last viewed page
