  10. 54th CIES Conference Monday, 10.00-11.30 • A Day in School: How Much Opportunity to Learn Do Schools Provide? • The project was sponsored by AED, USAID, and “Save the Children”. Duration is: four months. Observation of school effectiveness by several factors in different schools. • The main observations are that less then half of school days used not effectively at schools , because the reasons of teacher’s and student’s absence, content of the lessons, and participation of kids in different activities instead of studying.   15. 54th CIES Conference Tuesday, 10.00-11.30 • "Reimagining Teacher Education“ • Dr. Zeichner discussed the efficacy of different options available around the world for preparing qualified teachers for everyone's children. • He talked about such issues as the consequences of relying on different forms of college and university-based preparation, on the job initial preparation, and initial teacher education through distance learning. • He discussed what is known from research in different parts of the world about the characteristics of good initial teacher preparation programs.   16. 54th CIES Conference Tuesday, 12.00-13.15 • Education For Human Rights and Social Justice • This panel presented a fundamental reassessment of the right to education and analysis of key rights instruments. • The field of comparative education, defined by its interdisciplinary and comparative characteristics, offered tools to construct effective eco-pedagogy practice and research. • Panel discussed that Holocaust education in secondary school social science textbooks around the world since 1970, using data coded from 465 textbooks from 69 countries. It finds that books and countries more connected to world society and with an accompanying emphasis on human rights, diversity in society and a depiction of international, rather than national, society are more likely to discuss the Holocaust.   20. 54th CIES Conference Wednesday, 12.00-13.15 • School Based Management: Evidence on its Effects and Challenges for Evaluation • This panel reviewed the evidence behind school based management initiatives around the world. The questions the panel addressed were the following: Does SBM improve education quality ?What are the kinds of changes that SBM reforms introduce at the school and district level that could explain improvement in education quality or lack thereof?What is the quantitative impact of one recent SBM reform, and what are the challenges for conducting impact evaluations of SBM reforms. • Through participative decision making and autonomy, schools under SBM are expected to be more efficient in the use of resources and more respondent to local needs. And by involving parents in school affairs and in monitoring and evaluating school personnel, SBM reforms can lead to more transparency, higher accountability and an increased focus on improving educational quality.   23. 54th CIES Conference Thursday, 8.00-9.30 • School Reform in Fragile Contexts • This panel was focused on discussion about opportunities for change appeared in post-war Liberia and Timor. • Education played a critical role in establishing legitimacy and competence of government, rebuilding social trust, and providing hope for the future. • An increased focus on rural teacher recruitment and training and a unique practicum-based curriculum of core academic subjects and contextualized vocational employment will improve the quality, relevance and external efficiency of schools in Timor to benefit reconstruction, alleviate poverty and promote a cohesive civic identity. • This study explores civic education in classroom of a school Liberia. During over a decade of conflict, teachers and students were displaced both internally and across national borders. This study uses textbook analysis, teacher interviews, and classroom observation to detail the intended and implemented civics curriculum for a teacher and students rebuilding their lives in economic uncertainty. The approaches of the scholars on this panel were to emerge from different epistemic and policy communities, and from qualitative, quantitative, institutional, historical and philosophical traditions.   25. 54th CIES Conference Thursday, 12.00-13.15 • Technology in the Classroom, ICT and Learning • The study investigates a public, primary school located in rural, Southwest United Kingdom. The primary school is considered the British model of what the technologically advanced classroom of the future will look like at the primary or elementary level. The data collected in this study provides a model for how technology can be integrated into elementary schools. • This study focuses on secondary school teachers from developing countries who are participants in a semester-long study program at US universities. Specifically, the study analyzes their experience in the technology course and the impact of the training on their first academic year of teaching upon return to their home countries. This discussion of how individuals involved in innovating education through promoting ICT for education in order to minimize the negative impact of the equipment when it is no longer useable • The presentation proposed intervention to be carried out in the summer 2010 with a goal to seek the most effective ways of using various ICTs methods to provide lifelong learning in a form of non-formal education modules for the marginalized population, especially among rural women in Vietnam. New Experience I have learned as a volunteer at the conference how to communicate with adults and work in a Team; As a participant I could analyzed the analysis of different researches and studies during the sessions (of my interest) in School Improvement plan; School governance; Civic Education; Development in the post-Soviet countries; The role of ICT at the classroom; Effectiveness of the school and the role of Education; Activism of woman; The role of community for school; The quality of school; Access to the school and equity; Time and opportunities at school; School reform and innovations at school; Access to Higher Education.
