  3. www.stpltd.com CLEAN……BUT HOW MUCH ?? The pharmaceutical industry demands virtually operation theatre standards of cleanliness and a key issue is cleaning and sanitization of ceilings ,walls and ventilation systems Damaging contaminants can infiltrate by air ,foot or any carrier between the external environment and the critical area The floor and walls provide a large exposed surface which, if not properly fortified could aid in bacterial colonization Studies by 3M show that over 80% of the contamination entres the clean room through entrance and exits mostly at or near floor level &

  4. www.stpltd.com The troublesome seven • Aspergillus niger • Burkholderia cepacia • Clostridium difficile • Escherichia coli • Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) • Pseudomonas aeruginosa • Salmonella enteritidis

  5. www.stpltd.com MICROBIAL CONTAMINATION OF DRUGS SALMONELLA • Irrespective of being harmful microbes can induce change in drug characteristics such as : • Breaking of emulsions • Thinning of creams • Fermentation of syrups • Turbidity • Odour and colour change Often ,an entire batch would need to be discarded in case of severe colonization

  6. www.stpltd.com ARE STANDARD PROCEDURES EFFECTIVE ? Personal hygiene is paramount but even sterilized gloves ,over-suits ,caps and over-shoes are not quite enough to completely block entry of pathogens in the sterilized area Foot –traffic ,movement of equipment, grooves in trolley-wheels, inspection & maintenance procedures form a conduit for transferring pathogens from the external environment to an otherwise strictly regulated “clean room” Such infections could invade the storage areas, contaminating vital drug ingredients with extremely adverse consequences for the patient as well as the manufacturer &

  8. www.stpltd.com Effects of Contamination Unguarded proliferation of contamination can quickly lead to : product damage yield reduction product recalls legal implications ,revoking of licence and huge financial losses &

  9. www.stpltd.com to THE STP ADVANTAGE…….. STP has tailor made solutions for the pharmaceutical industry which are extremely effective in controlling microbial growth on floors and walls of manufacturing/packaging areas

  10. www.stpltd.com ADVANTAGE OF HYGIENIC COATINGS

  11. www.stpltd.com About STP Epoxy Floors • Epoxy floorings are essentially 2-3 component resin formulations modified with appropriate fillers and additives which can be applied as a film on the parent floor • Their unique features : • Joint less • Monolithic • Chemically resistant • Hygienic • Abrasion resistant • Inhibits microbial colonization

  12. www.stpltd.com STP’S CUSTOMIZED PHARMACEUTICAL FLOOR COATINGS Shalideck SL : • Three component ,self -levelling epoxy flooring • Seamless, joint less and monolithic • Has excellent bond to new as well as old concrete floors and other substrates like Kota Stones (seamless ,non-staining) • Good gloss and abrasion resistance • Non –porous ,hygienic ,chemically resistant • Does not support fungal or bacterial growth by eliminating cracks and crevices which could otherwise harbour harmful pathogens

  13. www.stpltd.com STP’S CUSTOMIZED PHARMACEUTICAL FLOOR COATINGS • Has good resistance to mild acids and alkali solutions such as Acetic Acid ,Citric Acid ,Lactic Acid ,Hydrochloric Acid Caustic Soda, Ammonium Hydroxide and other common ingredients for manufacture of drugs • Can withstand traffic with nylon/rubber wheels • Available in attractive colours • Hygienic and easy to clean • Finishes to a thickness of 500-2000 microns

  14. www.stpltd.com PROTECTIO N FOR WALLS AND CEILINGS • Bio-chemical ingredients used in the pharma industry could corrode the surface of walls and ceilings thereby providing a breeding ground for harmful microbes • Spillage from blenders bio-reactors ,foot traffic, sudden change in air-flow patterns within the clean room contribute to accumulation of dust /chemicals on the walls

  15. www.stpltd.com SHALIPOXY FC WALL COATINGS…. • High build epoxy coating ideally suited for pharmaceutical applications • Does not allow dust or bacteria to accumulate due to a hard cured surface with an inherrent smooth finish • Has resistance towards common weak acids and alkalis and forms a monolithic layer which acts as a barrier for the parent substrate • Is easy to apply and has a fast drying characteristic with a film coating of 200 microns over 2 coats • Due to smooth and glossy characteristics , it is easy to clean and maintain without loss of aesthetics

  16. www.stpltd.com For new floors ,the concrete should be minimum 28 days old and properly finished The moisture content should be less than 5% For proper adherence ,the floor surface is thoroughly cleaned by grinding ,scarifying and acid-etching Tiles have joints which makes them an unsuitable substrate for laying epoxy floors Marble surfaces would need to be thoroughly ground before application of the coating Requirements for an epoxy floor

  17. APPLICATION PROCEDURE…

  18. www.stpltd.com In case of spillage of food and raw ingredients cleaning should be done immediately with detergent and luke- warm water Regular maintenance of trolleys to prevent locking of wheels Use of polyurethane /pneumatic wheels on trolleys Handle sharp equipment carefully : denting and even deep scratches can occur due to impact of falling objects Use mats to drag heavy objects on the floor Plug leaks in water pipes/air ducts beneath the surface to prevent blistering Care for your epoxy floor …..
