  2. www.stpltd.com FIGHTING THE NOSOCOMIAL MENACE CUSTOMIZED EPOXY COATINGS WHICH HELPS YOU BREATHE EASY …………….

  3. www.stpltd.com “There is no hospital ,however small ,airy or well ventilated where the epidemic ulcer is not to be found at times and thus no operation dared to be performed ; Every care stands still ,every wound becomes a sore ,and every sore is apt to run into gangrene. But in great hospitals it is prevalent at all times and is a real gangrene! It has been called the Hospital Gangrene and such were the ravages of Hotel Dieu in Paris ,the great storehouse of corruption and disease that the surgeons dare not call it by its true name “….. John Bell (1801) on Hospital Infection

  4. www.stpltd.com “It may seem a strange principle to enunciate as the very requirement in a Hospital that it should do the sick no harm…… The actual mortality in Hospitals ,especially in those of large crowded cities is very much higher than any calculation founded on the mortality of the same class of diseases among patients treated out of Hospitals” Florence Nightingale (Notes on Hospitals )

  5. www.stpltd.com About Nosocomial Infections…… Refers to Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) which were not present or incubating at the time of admission High incidence in OT’s ,post operative wards ,ICU ,ITU’s Labour Rooms ,Dialysis and Geriatric wards Especially pronounced in the case of mechanical ventilation intravenous catheters and other invasive procedures A problem in developed as well as developing countries High economic costs : Longer stay in hospitals, delayed discharge and increased risk of infection to new patients

  6. www.stpltd.com Disturbing …but true Surgical infections account for 12.3 % of all hospital acquired infections New Drug resistant strains of Staphylococcus Aureus and Enterobacteria are on the rise which cause sepsis and respiratory infections in post operative cases Nearly 2 million fresh cases reported every year There are 80,000 deaths annually in India on account of such infections

  7. www.stpltd.com How safe is our OT ……… Infections seek a safe heaven to breed and multiply Tile joints ,highly porous marble slabs provide cracks & crevices shielded from common fumigants Here microbes ,multiply ,develop immunity to drugs and get an opportunity to really “test their arsenal “ before launching an ATTACK The result is post operative complications, patient trauma and even closure of OT’s

  8. www.stpltd.com Frequency of Nosocomial Infections

  9. www.stpltd.com Magnified view of spores multiplying on the OT floor

  10. www.stpltd.com These infections have the potential to invade ICU ‘s and other critical areas acquiring greater immunity as they colonize one area after another…………..

  11. www.stpltd.com Another unknown Assassin in OT’s… OT’s,ICU’s and other high dependency areas use sensitive electro-medical equipment High static current generated in Life support equipment/radio-diagnostic machines and other costly important equipments affects their performance as well as has a direct bearing on their life-cycle warranting frequent maintenance and use of costly spares Often a mixture of gases such as oxygen and nitrous oxide together with static charge can ignite thus posing a hazard to life and property There is a need to ensure that this charge is dissipated through a proper channel to protect costly equipment from damage and also safe-guard people against a potential life-threatening situation

  12. www.stpltd.com About STP Epoxy Floors STP Epoxy floorings are essentially 2-3 component resin formulations modified with appropriate fillers and additives which can be applied as a film on the parent floor Their unique features : Joint less Monolithic Chemically resistant Hygienic Abrasion resistant Inhibits microbial colonization

  13. www.stpltd.com A look at a new STP epoxy floor……….

  14. www.stpltd.com Available in different colours ……….

  15. www.stpltd.com Demarcations with different colours

  16. www.stpltd.com View of an OT corridor flooring with STP Epoxy

  17. www.stpltd.com Basic Requirements for an epoxy floor For new floors ,the concrete should be minimum 28 days old and properly finished The moisture content should be less than 4% For proper adherence ,the floor surface is thoroughly cleaned by grinding ,scarifying and acid-etching Tiles have joints which makes them an unsuitable substrate for laying epoxy floors Marble surfaces would need to be thoroughly ground before application of the coating

  18. www.stpltd.com Recommended hospital floorings ………. Shalideck SL : • Three component ,self -levelling epoxy flooring • Seamless, joint less and monolithic • Good gloss and abrasion resistance • Non –porous ,hygienic ,chemically resistant • Does not support fungal or bacterial growth • Can withstand traffic with nylon/rubber wheels • Available in attractive colours • Hygienic and easy to clean • Finishes to a thickness of 500-2000 microns

  19. www.stpltd.com Add-ons which make a difference Shaliscreed SL AS Anti-static characteristic: helps to dissipate the static charge of costly electronic equipment enhancing their life-span Has all other attributes of Shalideck SL but is slightly thicker at 3000 microns Shalipoxy FC Specially resistant to acid alkalis and corrosive chemicals Recommended for coating vertical walls in OT’s ,ICU’s and other critical care areas Easy-apply and fast drying characteristics with a film coating of 200 microns in 2 coats Shaliol PU Provides UV and weather resistance : ideal for outer walls and also inner surfaces prone to abrasion and corrosive vapours

  20. www.stpltd.com Application procedure

  21. www.stpltd.com Care for your epoxy floor ….. In case of spillage of chemicals cleaning should be done immediately with detergent and luke- warm water Regular maintenance of patient and equipment trolleys to prevent locking of wheels Use of polyurethane /pneumatic wheels on trolleys Handle sharp surgical equipment carefully : denting and even deep scratches can occur due to impact of falling objects Use mats to drag heavy objects on the floor Plug leaks in water pipes/air ducts beneath the surface to prevent blistering

  22. www.stpltd.com Prevention is better than cure …. Say “NO” to nosocomial infections Switch over to Epoxy Floors which help minimize the risks Call us to discuss your specific needs STP shall definitely have a tailor –made solution ready especially for YOU
