  2. Cropping • Taking out parts of an image • Why? • To improve or change elements of the composition • Similar to editing and revising while writing.

  3. Composition • Visual arrangement of all the elements in a photograph. • Similar to mise-en-scene in films

  4. Photo Manipulation • Telling a lit through a camera • Altering images so that they misrepresent the information presented.

  5. Air Brushing • Method of retouching photographs in which dye is prayed on selected areas of the negative or the print. • “Photoshopping” is the new version of this!

  6. Camera Angles • Various positions of the camera with respect to the subject being shot.

  7. Ethics • Set of moral principles or values • Principles of conduct governing an individual or group

  8. Discussion • What is the difference between the representations of the same image? • Why would someone choose to darken the picture of the person? • What is the message to you, the reader? • SHOULD a photographer follow a set of ethical standards? If so, what should those be?

  9. Ethics • Should photos be changed or cropped? • Under what circumstances might cropping be appropriate or necessary? • What are some concerns about cropping too much content from a photograph?

  10. What is the Tie to Film? • Why would we do this in a film class? • What is the point?
