  1. What are the Different Types of Eye Tests? Knowing what to expect when you go in for an eye exam is important. It can help to put your mind at ease. The technology available today allows a great deal of information to be explored and to be evaluated when you go through such testing. The goal is to identify far more than just your vision in each eye. Some of the test is created to determine the amount of pressure in each eye. Others are created to identify any symptoms of eye disease. If you have told your doctor about specific symptoms you experience such as blurred vision or pain, that can influence the types of testing they will complete while you are in the office. Vision The most common type of testing allows them to get a good idea of your vision in each eye. You will be asked to read a chart on the wall, with the letters getting smaller and smaller on down the page. You will read the chart with both eyes and then twice more with one eye covered each time. This is because one eye can compensate for the other, so they each need to be done. If your vision is less than 20/20 in each eye, you may need to wear corrective lenses. You may need to wear them all the time. If that is true, you can opt for either eyeglasses or contact lenses. If you only need to wear corrective lenses when you read, glasses are going to be your best option to consider. Retinoscopy There is a type of eye test known as the retinoscopy, where various dials and lenses are used. A bright light will also be used with such testing. This is conducted if it is determined you do need some type of corrective lenses. The light allows them to determine the optimum prescription for each of your eyes.

  2. Refraction Another test they will conduct if you need corrective lenses is the refraction test. This is where you will look at the same image through two different lenses. You will tell the person performing the test if they look the same or if one of them looks better than the other. This helps them to determine if you are nearsighted or farsighted. It can also share if the patient has astigmatism. Ocular Pressure Evaluating the amount of pressure behind each eye is important. This is a type of test that is often conducted. If there is too much pressure, it can be a telling sign that there is a serious health concern in place. It may be in the early stages, and this sign can help the specialist to know to keep an eye on something so it doesn’t get worse. This type of test is going to look for glaucoma. It is going to send a puff of air into each eye rapidly. This may spook you the first time it happens, but it isn’t going to hurt at all. They should discuss this with you and let you know what to expect so you are ready for that puff of air when it hits the eye. Peripheral Vision How well do you see what is on the sides of you? This is known as your peripheral vision. It is often tested as part of a typical eye exam. You will be asked to look straight ahead and then given prompts to report what you see on either side of you without moving your eyes to identify it. Most people can see what is taking place to the left and right without any hindrance. About Us:Your vision is too precious not to pay attention to it.
